Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  1. A tough fly day for me

  2. A quiet St. Patty's day at the pool

    We had about half the normal crowd there today. Most will be going to the parade.

    With that said I did another of my 200 Fly's at the end of practice in 3:29.

  3. Long Course Friday

    We are having more long course fridays now. This is a nice change of pace and with the kids gone to Sectionals I used one of the GCAT lanes today. I didn't want to scare off the guy that was apparently intimidated by me last week. Next week he'll just have to get over it and join me or go home like he did last week.

    Yes this was a planned breaststroke day today and my left knee held up fine.

    The friday flyer may reappear if it chases people out of my lane tomorrow!

  5. Getting stronger

    Normally I would not do the 200 fly on a Wednesday due to the floatilla of fins in the lane next to me but today they got out early! Broke yesterdays time and went 3:29 this time. I really like it wasn't that fast.

  6. Finally broke 3:32 for practice

    Every time I have done the 200 fly at the end of practice from a push I always do exactly 3:32, but not today! 3:30 and I could see I was out in 1:45 at the 100. The next time I will do this will hopefully be thrusday when I have my own lane.

  7. Distance Day today after a weekend off

    The kids had a meet and I could not get in the water at all. Felt ok today so did a good distance set. Taper starts soon for Y Nationals.

    It was a beautiful long course day and I scared one guy into not joining me in the lane. Even after the guard told him there was one lap lane he would not share. His loss.

  9. A hard time breathing today in practice

    I felt like I did went I first started swimming having to get used to the water pressure on my chest. I hope I am not coming down with something but then again my daughter has been sick and probably shared it with me. I'll get over it.

    Just when we lap swimmers thought we would have more lanes since SCAD left for Nationals, the tri team spread out. Had to deal with the flotilla of fins next to me, YUCK.

    Did have to back off on swim number 4 of my set just as a precation, but I did do a test swim at the end of practice and matched last weeks time exactly.

  12. testing myself today to see how I feel after saturday

    Was alittle timid in my workout today. Just didn't want a recurrance of Saturday and I made it with flying colors. I can tell when it is going to happen and I just need to say BACK OFF it's not worth it. Once I get past that feeling I can get back to my normal pace.

    With the increase in distance too on saturday I was surprised I was not sore. My right shoulder and elbow which have been plaquing me were not a problem today.

  13. Pushed too hard today

    Started with my normal workout but then the guards we redoing their 1 hour swim and I did it too to a point.

    I set my heart rate up too high and have been resting since this 6000 yard workout.

    This was a good day for me even with some minor back related issues at the onset of workout. As normal I was able to get progressively faster with each swim.

  18. Had a great meet this weekend

    The meet in N. Myrtle Beach was a great one for me. After a few years of so so meets it is nice to have a good one. All of my times were faster than last year or last time I swam them. Highlights were the distance events 1650 free dropped 5 seconds from last year, 500 free went under 6:30, 200 back a 4 second drop from earlier this season, 400 IM dropping 3 seconds from my last swim. The best came at the end though 100 back breaking 1:20 which I have not been able to in the last 3 years and finishing with a strong 200 Fly right at my best for the year and it felt good.

    There were other events too and they were ok, you know those sprint things that I have just decided to do what I do best.

    Todays workout was more of a warm down from the meet.

  20. Allergies hitting but handling it much better

    I have to admit the local honey is really minimizing the effects of my allergies. I did take a Claritan last night and will again tonight, but for the weekend NONE! I noticed this morning it was harder to breath while swimming than normal.

    Hopefully the meet this weekend will go well. I can't believe the last event of the meet is the 200 Fly!!! WHY????? 10 events over 3 days mostly long distance.

    Here was my easy workout today. My legs felt fairly strong, must be from all the walking and spinning.
