Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  1. Back to the Aquatic Center - Tough to breath

    The chemicals were still off but not the same way as last week. Toward the end of practice it became more difficult to breath so my sprints from the block were not very good.

    From a physical standpoint the massage friday really, REALLY has helped me. My shoulder is about 90% back and my lower back is about the same. I need another one SOON!

  2. Swam at the Y today

    Got in a good 3000 yards today.

    Though the pool was on the warm side, I could breath today YEAH!!!

  3. From Bad to Worse

    Yesterday the pool chemical situation was bad. Today it was worse, I could barely breath by the time I finished. I am still recovering.

  4. Pool chemicals were off - bad case of cotton mouth

    Everyone was complaining about the pool today. When your upper lip sticks to the gums and you look like a chipmunk and your mouth is as dry as can be you know the chemicals are wrong.

    At least I got to the chiropractor yesterday and am feeling alot better. My right leg is no longer short and my elbow is better. The right shoulder was still a little tweekie but on the mend. Now I just need a good massage to finish it off.

  6. Putting the body back together

    My right shoulder was hurting until I adjusted my stroke, but after warm up it was fine. The left elbow is still a problem but it too loosens up with use. The lower back is always a problem but movement helps that too.

  7. Distance focus today

    I dove in to find my right shoulder with some issues but I decided at that moment to just do a nice easy warmup working on stroke technique to see if I could get thru it and after 200 I was fine.

  8. Saturday with the kids

    Our kids group keeps growing on Saturday. I did get 3000 in during the first hour before they came.

  9. Friday Madness

    Yes it was Long Course again and you know what that means.... 500 Fly!!!!

    It was one of my slower swims, since I had not done it in so long it felt alot harder than normal. Will have to do this again next week.

  10. Elbow back to its old tricks

    I talked with my dad who has had 2 shoulder replacements and he said "no matter how good the surgeon you can't improve on God" and "the replacement parts are just not as good as the real deal."

    The elbow is acting up today but I will do some tens on it later and it should be fine.

  12. Light swim and core workout

    Today I opted to start back to normal swimming just not opening my mouth too widely. Had an invite to do some core work so I took the opportunity today since I was not really planning a hard water workout.

    Lookout, tomorrow I plan to be back to normal so it may be a tough one of sorts.

  13. Easy day of kicking only

    Nothing tough today. Had a tooth extracted late Friday and took today as an easy kick day. Tomorrow I might try to swim a little. Still hurts a bit to open my mouth too widely.

    If anyone is wondering yes I did coach Friday night with the wads of gauze still in my mouth. I was still so numb from the novicain I didn't feel a thing.

    Yes I did some of that evil breaststroke today. Not too badly if I do say so. I wanted to do fly but tomorrow is long course day and I usually like fly better long course than short course. Weird I know.

  16. Still congested but a little more pep

    Felt a little better than yesterday overall, back was still bothering me as usual. Need to get my workout in or I just don't loosen up.

  18. Back to the water today

    Had to go to the Y today since the Aquatic Center was closed for the holiday. Warm pool and at first I did not feel like I could move. After about 1000 I was feeling more normal.

  19. Another day at the races

    Actually had a great day of season best swims. Had some nice time drops on my 200 Breast taking into account I have not been swimming much breaststroke since 2008 when I hurt my knee. Hopefully it will get faster.

    Went 1:19.18 in the 100 Back, 3:14.88 in the 200 Breast and 29.23 in the 50 free.

    Total yards 1800

    The kids did fantastic and we celibrated at Pizza Hut!

  20. LONG day at the pool

    WOW! My kids all did great and coach had solid swims too.

    There are a few who now have the distinction of beating coach! They like it!

    We started out with the 100 Free where I swam a 1:05... which is my best time this season. Next was the 100 Breast in about a 1:32... another best for the season. My 500 Free was a 5:22 which was only 2 seconds slower than the last time I swam it, but I have to admit I swam within my comfort zone.

    Total of 2300 yards between swims and warmups/downs.
