Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  1. Light swim and core workout

    Today I opted to start back to normal swimming just not opening my mouth too widely. Had an invite to do some core work so I took the opportunity today since I was not really planning a hard water workout.

    Lookout, tomorrow I plan to be back to normal so it may be a tough one of sorts.

  2. Easy day of kicking only

    Nothing tough today. Had a tooth extracted late Friday and took today as an easy kick day. Tomorrow I might try to swim a little. Still hurts a bit to open my mouth too widely.

    If anyone is wondering yes I did coach Friday night with the wads of gauze still in my mouth. I was still so numb from the novicain I didn't feel a thing.

  4. That EVIL stroke day

    Yes I did some of that evil breaststroke today. Not too badly if I do say so. I wanted to do fly but tomorrow is long course day and I usually like fly better long course than short course. Weird I know.

  5. Still congested but a little more pep

    Felt a little better than yesterday overall, back was still bothering me as usual. Need to get my workout in or I just don't loosen up.

    10x100@1:45 Free first 2 very painful but then I loosened up nicely
    600 kick w/fins streamline on back alternate by 100 Fly/Back
    400 Free kick w/fins moderate pace
    5x100@1:30 w/paddles & bouy as 50free/50back held 1:26's
    300 Back drill no equipment as 100 6kicks per stroke, 100 rt/lt arm, 100 kick
    200 Free w/snorkle EASY this was tough with the congestion will avoid snorkle until healthy again

  7. Back to the water today

    Had to go to the Y today since the Aquatic Center was closed for the holiday. Warm pool and at first I did not feel like I could move. After about 1000 I was feeling more normal.

    1000 as 200 swim/pull/swim/kick/swim
    500 Free kick w/fins every 3rd 25 FAST
    5x200@4:00 Fly w/fins as 50rt arm/50lt arm/50 kick/50 swim fast
    500 Breast kick w/brfins

  8. Another day at the races

    Actually had a great day of season best swims. Had some nice time drops on my 200 Breast taking into account I have not been swimming much breaststroke since 2008 when I hurt my knee. Hopefully it will get faster.

    Went 1:19.18 in the 100 Back, 3:14.88 in the 200 Breast and 29.23 in the 50 free.

    Total yards 1800

    The kids did fantastic and we celibrated at Pizza Hut!

  9. LONG day at the pool

    WOW! My kids all did great and coach had solid swims too.

    There are a few who now have the distinction of beating coach! They like it!

    We started out with the 100 Free where I swam a 1:05... which is my best time this season. Next was the 100 Breast in about a 1:32... another best for the season. My 500 Free was a 5:22 which was only 2 seconds slower than the last time I swam it, but I have to admit I swam within my comfort zone.

    Total of 2300 yards between swims and warmups/downs.

  11. Another painful day but it does get better

    Today was worse than yesterday. During my warmup flipturns hurt really bad for the first 5 100's then I seemed to loosen up. What would I do without swimming to keep me loose.

    I have a kids meet this weekend don't know how stiff I will be but I will do the best I can with where I am at on those days.

  12. Oh my aching back

    I know I need to get to the chiropracter some time soon but I really don't like the expense. I have noticed my right leg is shorter at the moment than the left, a clear indication a chiropractor is needed.

    So today to solve the back problems.....BUTTERFLY!!!

  18. Felt good today

    Overall I have to say I felt fairly good today. Only my lower back and ankle where stiff at the start. After the first 300 of warm up felt good all over.

  19. Slow and steady

    Just have no real motivation right now but I know I have to swim even if I am not motivated. Maybe it is always having something that hurts, a shoulder, an elbow, a knee or an ankle.

    I have been putting it off but I think it is time for a GOOD DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE or two or three. Then I can feel like I can push myself more, till then this will have to do.

    I think I drank too much coffee yesterday. Couldn't sleep and had a queazy feeling this morning. Just praying I didn't throw up.
