Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  2. Short workout

  4. See what happens when you get mad

    Started my warmup and the lane line started moving into my lane on #3 there my lane had closed up so I yelled at the guards to pull this lane out and put a new one in. Mark it defective and take it away. This is not the first time I have had to deal with this. After that I just went into serious distance mode to work off the fustration of having to help change out a lane line missing valuable workout time.

  6. I know what I need to work on

    After the 800 on Friday I need to finish my stroke on my left arm. What I find strange is when I do a one arm swim for time my left arm is significantly faster than my right, yet my left arm apparently gives out sooner on distance. So that is my new focus.

  7. A kids meet and some fun

    My 800 Free was only 2 seconds slower than last year so I think that is good. I did notice on the back half my left arm I did not have the strength to complete my pull on that arm. Something to work on between now and Nationals.

    The girls on my team did great. For Maddie it was her first ever long course meet. For McKaylin she went from being in the middle of the pack to taking 2 2nds in 400 Free and 100 Back, 1 3rd in 800 Free and 8th in the 100 Fly. She made her 400 and 800 Free state cuts and is 1 seoncd off on the 100 Back.

    Maddie was just learning how to pace in a long course pool. She did better on the 400 than the 800. Both swims were good for a first time both at that distance and in the long pool.

  8. decisions decisions

    This morning I knew I needed to just go slow but then a part of me wanted to push myself once I got warmed up. So Happy medium was reached. 80% level of effort.

    1000 Free as 200 swim/pull/swim/kick/swim
    500 Free w/fins alt 100 slow/100 moderate
    10x100@1:45 Free w/paddles & bouy this is were I wanted to hold race pace but decided to hold 5 seconds slower.
    300 Free kick w/fins
    200 Fly drill 1 arm good motion to loosen the lower back

    I guess I am one of those who just has to push myself all the time. After spending the weekend relaxing I now know why I need to work and get out of the house. I would be too lazy if I didn't.

  12. Not much today

    I had planned to swim but my mouth kept going. I saw so many old friends at the CCAC that I just talked.

    I had the girls there Sandra, McKaylin and Maddie. They wanted to get used to long course and they will be doing this more often. Today I moved over with a few masters swimmers so that I could work out and not be mistaken for a coach. Especially since all of the other teams were there.

  14. Working thru it

    Shoulders are still fairly sore but seem to be getting better and stronger. Really pushed myself toward the end of this workout.

    Nationals was fun seeing old friends, making new ones and just seeing some awesome swims.

    As for mine, nothing to write home about, too busy coaching to really be rested to swim.

    Since I had been trying to avoid the warmup pool I was in real need of a warm down so that was the goal today.

  18. Not a bad first day at Nat's

    Just snuck into 10th place in the 1650 Free with a 21:50.37. Only 4 seconds off my time from last year so that is fine by me.

    I am hoping to get my sprints back so this ok. Would like a colder pool but then I really like to compete in 78 degree water.

  19. Was this a workout or play time

    Had to work from 3am-5:30am so did not get to the pool until almost 6:20am. Jut did 10x100 from a dive the first 4 easy then the rest strong breakout to 15 meters. Worked with Coach Walt on getting my starts corrected.
