Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

    Had a surprisingly good workout this morning. Still being somewhat cautious with my right shoulder and elbow but other than that.... great.

  2. Had a great meet this weekend

    The meet in N. Myrtle Beach was a great one for me. After a few years of so so meets it is nice to have a good one. All of my times were faster than last year or last time I swam them. Highlights were the distance events 1650 free dropped 5 seconds from last year, 500 free went under 6:30, 200 back a 4 second drop from earlier this season, 400 IM dropping 3 seconds from my last swim. The best came at the end though 100 back breaking 1:20 which I have not been able to in the last 3 years and finishing with a strong 200 Fly right at my best for the year and it felt good.

    There were other events too and they were ok, you know those sprint things that I have just decided to do what I do best.

    Todays workout was more of a warm down from the meet.

  4. Allergies hitting but handling it much better

    I have to admit the local honey is really minimizing the effects of my allergies. I did take a Claritan last night and will again tonight, but for the weekend NONE! I noticed this morning it was harder to breath while swimming than normal.

    Hopefully the meet this weekend will go well. I can't believe the last event of the meet is the 200 Fly!!! WHY????? 10 events over 3 days mostly long distance.

    Here was my easy workout today. My legs felt fairly strong, must be from all the walking and spinning.

  5. Staying on Pace

    Yes today was a distance pace day. Trying to get ready for the 1650 Friday, If no one scratches I should have the jack rabbit Joe next to me so I just have to swim my own race.

    Was a little off my pacing goal today of 1:20/:40 but it was faster than most times so I'll take it.

  6. A quick 1 hour workout at the Y in 84 degree water

    Since I have a longer ride to work from Hinesville, that means a shorter swim time to make it to work on time. My main pool was closed so the Y was the only pool open today. My guard today was one of the swimmers I coach in the evenings, Dylan.

  7. Swiming at the Y again

    Not too bad today only 84 and I was able to tolerate it ok. The only bad thing was that the hot tub was not hot, it was only 98 which was not refreshing after my swim.

    My fly felt strong, but my freestyle was week.

  8. Long Course Friday....YEAH!

    So nice to see long course today. I still had to deal with the flotilla of fins in the lane next to me. So it was like doing an open water swim with lots of waves. Maybe some day I can build my own pool!

    I was glad there were no issues with ice for us this morning. Felt slow and sluggish but did relatively well on times.

    I also found out Monday the pool is closed for the holiday, I guess I'll be warm pooling it at the Y monday morning at 5 am. I am thankful for my backup pool.

  11. Butterfly felt smooth today

    Had a good workout today, mostly a moderate easy workout. I am now realizing I am a decent distance swimmer and should not kid myself that I can sprint. I will continue trying just for fun but distance here I come.

  12. Too many people in the lane today but managed well

    Today I had to circle swim with 2 slower individuals but I do have to admit they were ok with me passing down the middle of the lane and they looked for me at the walls and did not leave in front of me, just before my interval.

    This weekend I had to find some of my old cloths, size 12's. Why is it a few weeks back all I could find were size 12's that I couldn't fit in but now that I can, all I can find are size 14's. It's like they all hid from me in my closet!

  15. Working on that evil stroke today

    My knee started out hurting and I was not sure I would be able to do the workout but after some modification of my kick I was fine. That is why my breaststroke stinks and will probably always stink. I have to do a painless kick not a powerful kick. An all arms breaststroke is not exactly fast.

  18. Back to normal today

    Had to share a lane today so that means freestyle today. Tomorrow I am not sure which stroke I will work on, probably fly.

    Hit 50 miles today, that should have been last week but not getting in the pool for 2 days due to a non snow event really gets in the way of plans.

    Times for the meet were fairly good this time around dropped 4 seconds from last time in the 100 Fly 1:25. On the 100 back I matched my time which was good since my feet slipped on the start and I basically had no push off the wall but still went 1:23. The 500 felt strong but was a little slower than last time. I think I was distracted because at that time I had been paged by work and I knew I was going to have to go in to work after I finished.
