Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  2. A great distance workout today, key word descend!

    Took a good warm up but did get in a great distance workout, even with my apparent lopsided stroke. My right arm is considerably weaker than the left as I proved on Saturday.

  5. Vertigo shows up again

    I actually pushed thru it today. Started getting dizzie on my push offs of the wall on my warmup but after a while I got used to it. The only think I couldn't do was backstroke. That made me nausiated.

    Today I worked on my breaststroke. It took a while for my left knee to calm down but after 200 it did.

  7. Tough drive in this morning

    I just had a hard time keeping my eyes open. The lack of sleep is hitting me hard. Couple that with a hard weightlifting set last night and you get a person who just doesn't want to move.

  8. Rewarded myself for a good 200 Fly with a day of Fly

    This weekend was our first USA LCM meet and I just did the 200 Fly. At the time the entry went in I was still battling vertigo so nothing with flip turns meant fly or breast and they were back to back. Went a 3:46.86 a second better than last year and getting closer to where I was almost 5 years ago. The thing is I can't wait to see how I do when I actually feel good not tired and battling the last bit of allergies.

    But it was crowded today. Kathy and I are used to sharing a lane but today we were joined by one of the kids from SST and one other triathlete who has been swimming on his own lately instead of with the tri team.

  10. Back to normal today

    Last night I added a little weight lifting, not much but what I could do on deck while coaching with little 5 pound weights that were available to me.

    This morning was more of a normal workout. My speed is gone and I have to build my distance swimming back up now.

  12. Trying to get back to normal

    I tried to get back to normal but still had to deal with some minor dizziness. Other than that I was quite pleased.

    I do have to say I worked my legs on my last 500 kick so much that they started itching do to more blood flow.

  13. Back at the Y in 86 degree bath wate

    It was way too hot for me today. I did wake up to a round of vertigo, but I was able to do the exercises to get the crystals back as they should be.

    I was even able to do easy flip turns today but did stay on track by doing 2000 of todays workout breaststroke.

  14. I was really looking forward to long course but...

    Due to a beginner meet tonight the pool was short course so for a no flip turn day that was annoying. Actually for my warm down I did do some flip turns just to see how well I tollerated them. It went ok.

  15. Hoping I can get back to normal

    Today was another no flip turn day. I plan to continue this until either my ear clears up or next week which ever comes first. This not doing flip turns is so hard.

    How do I combate the urge to do flip turns? Avoid free and back so today was breast and tomorrow fly.

  16. Another no flip turn day

    It is hard not to instictively do flip turns, when you are so used to doing them. I only did one on accident. Today was a more energized workout that since I have been sick.

  17. Vertigo YUCK

    Monday and Tuesday I ended up kicking since I was having problems with Vertigo. I hope this clears up soon. Kicking is not my strength or even a favorite thing to do.

    I did try 20x25@:30 just to force myself not to do a flip turn which would just make things worse.

    I am doing the exercise to get the crystals back to where they need to be but obviously flipturns can cause me problems. Nothing like pushing off the wall on a flipturn and everything is spinning.

  18. Long Course Friday

    Had a visitor today in my lane, Jen Bew. She was then followed by 2 beginner tri swimmers. Tri as they may We were lapping them regularly. We will have to teach them that if we are coming in to the wall wait for us to pass you there, otherwise we'll just embarass you by passing you in a matter of 5 strokes.

    This was another easy day for me, hopefully next week I can crank it back up to normal.

  19. Mastered the art of Sleep Swimming today

    Was up for 3 hours working on hospital issues yet I did still manage to make it to swim practice and work this morning. Today I mastered the art of sleep swimming!

    Yes you can swim with your eyes shut and sense when the light gets brighter so that you can open your eyes to do a flip turn here and there. The water was also so cold today that I decided to get out a little early.

  20. short workout today

    my right eye is swollen and goopy from my allergies. Ran out of Mucinex so I had to wait on my daughter to get home late last night. Starting to get everything back under control, but this will take about a week to get over.

    This is why I am starting to rethink ever doing a spring time meet out of my area. Just can't afford the allergies that comes with it and I hate having to take meds. Mucinex DM, Visine, Garlic and Cranberry. What a great combination.

    Even with all that my swimming today was great but I had to hurry in to change before the mob got in so I wouldn't have to answer questions about why my eye was now almost swollen shut. It is better now.
