Mixing it up this year

I really like my toys and will continue to use them. The mix will be both distance and sprints. My focus for this year is to maintain my 200 fly time.

  1. The day after...

    I intended to do an easy day today so I decided to work on the legs and abs. Then threw in some speed work. Not really a recovery day.

    1000 as 200 swim/pull/swim/kick/swim
    500 Free kick w/fins every 3rd FAST
    500 Fly kick on back w/fins every 3rd FAST
    10x50@1:00 Free w/fins build to all out last 3rd held 37's
    200 Breast kick
    300 Free as 50drill/50swim

    Total 3000 yards
  2. Last day of the meet

    After the 1500 Free on Friday, 5 events and 2 relays on Saturday and now 5 events and 1 really today, I AM TIRED!

    Today I started today off with the 50 Free in a 32.42 which is only .3 seconds off my best and with a missed turn that must be were I lost it.

    The 200 Back was my focus for today, I was trying to break 3:00 but it was not to be, did do a PB by 2 seconds but 3:02.84 was not what I wanted. As I have said before I will take a PB were ever I can get it.

    Yet another PB for the 100 Free in 1:11.84, once again issues with the far wall seemed to plague my sprints. One end I jammed and the other end I am not close enough for a good push off. I guess since I am not used to 25 meter pools that could be the reason.

    As I am huffing and puffing I am getting ready for yet another PB in the 50 Back in 42.26.

    Next up was the Womens 200 Medley Relay in which I was doing the 50 Back and can you say yet another PB in 42.00.

    The final swim of the day was the 400 Free, I have to say I just ran out of steam on this one. 5:40.00 which is off by 8 seconds but at this point I think this was more of a painful warm down.

  3. Second day of meet

    Official time for the 1500 Free yesterday was 21:46.49 3rd place.

    Today went well even though I was somewhat tired. Started with the 100 IM in 1:24.35 this was my second best time for 3rd place. I still have an issue with the transition from Fly to Back. For some reason by back is so different as an event than in an IM.

    Next was the 50 Breast, just a filler event but did really well with a PB here in :47.45 for 4th place.

    The event I really wanted to focus on today was the 100 Back in 1:26.19 another PB for 2nd place. Felt solid, hopefully I can put a great 200 Back time together tomorrow.

    Did the 50 Fly in a relay where we came in 1st. I really felt like I was only giving 80% on this race, since I knew I had the 50 Fly and 200 Free and another relay left.

    The 50 Fly was equal to my best in 37.82 for 2nd place and was definitely faster than my relay effort.

    In the 200 Free I went for it and probably took it out too fast but still did great with 2nd place even with just dragging it home.

    The final swim was the womens 200 Free Relay were I was the anchor and did good considering Kristin and I just finished the 200 had 2 heats to rest and were back up for the relay. We took 1st in this.

  4. Decent Start to the meet

    Tonight was the 1500 Free, on something like that being off my time from last year by 10 seconds is really nothing. It felt good, my shoulders (yes both) are alittle sore but that is ok.

    I was the slowest one in my heat but I knew that going into it. There was really no one my speed to race since I was a minute slower than the rest of my heat.

    I don't have the official time since I did not stay till the last heat, but the watch time was 21:46.?

    After I had to take my son to a haunted house he heard about from one of the kids at the pool, then it was off to Subway to get something to eat and now BED!
  5. Alittle Mixed UP Today

    Mixed up in a good way though. Decided to test out all strokes, see how the shoulder is progressing. It was good at the beginning but is sore now. Will do my usual daily repair work and be good as new for tomorrow.

  6. Still nursing the shoulder a bit

    The shoulder is not as bad as it had been but it still lets me know it is there. I decided to take it easy today.

  8. Recovery day

    Today I just tried to stay loose and begin working on my backstoke since this coming weekend my main focus will be Free and Back.

    The difference for me this weekend has to be the kicking I have been doing since on the 200 I actually kicked.

    1000 Free as 200 swim/pull/swim/kick/swim
    500 Free kick w/fins every 3rd moderate pace
    5x100@:05R alt by 100 fly/back kick w/fins
    10x50@1:00 Back w/paddles descended these unintentionally started at about :50 and worked down to :45
    5x100@1:30 Free w/paddles & Bouy nice and loose
    300 Free EZ concentrate on the pull and how my arms grab and pull the water
    2x50@1:00 Free trying a relaxed straight thru pull as opposed to my usual S pull held :45 with no effort
    100 Easy

  9. Day 3 of the meet

    A great day today for my 200 Free this is the first time in 2 years I have broken 2:20 with a 2:19.71. The legs and all of the kicking I have been doing is making a difference.
    My 50 Free was not as good 29.02 but that is ok. I had several good swims this weekend with one personal best. Not a bad way to end the meet.

  10. Day 2 of the meet

    Originally I was only going to swim the 100 Free and I decided during warm up to deck enter the 500 Free and see how it goes.

    The 100 Free was my fastest non tapered time at 1:03.05 then came the 500 Free in 6:17.70, not a best but I am pleased with it. I felt like I tightened up at the 200 but managed a decent time anyway.

    Tonight the kids all did best times shedding lots of time while the old lady managed a best time in the 1000 Free. I could see my splits throughout the swim and knew I was out in 1:11 at the 100, 6:24 at the 500 and had plenty left to back half the race this time. Final time was 12:50.? a 6 second time drop. I will take a best time ANY TIME!

    This morning was just a warmup, get the shoulder loose, feeling ok but not much strength right now.

  13. Shouldn't have done it but felt so good

    Right shoulder is still rearing its ugly head but managed a great workout today somehow. Time now for ice/heat and Ibuprofen.

  15. Back in the water

    My right shoulder is still somewhat sore but better. The muscle that lies on top of the scapula is the culprit and I will finish working it out today. My lower back was hurting because I didn't swim yesterday and was stuck sitting so much at jury duty.

  16. A Day Off

    This is the first time in along time I took a day other than Sunday off. I had jury duty today and since I did not have the wireless card but still needed to do some system checks I chose to stay home and do the checks then go for jury duty. I made it out without getting put on a jury, YEAH!!!
  17. Another Saturday

    Today we had the whole group for drill day. My right shoulder is still acting up some. I hope it gets back to normal before my meets the next two weekends.

    With my right shoulder still acting up I still decided to work on my backstroke. This is what set my shoulder off about a month and a half ago. Survived and was very careful but still had some speed which is good.

  20. A bit boring today Sorry!

    I was still stiff and took a lot to get moving. I was thinking of doing the 100's pull on 1:30 but with one muscle giving me fits I decided to ease up and go on the 1:40 today.
