Got in a little late
10 x 100, alt IM & free on 1:45 & 1:30 - WITH Zoomers - yes, I needed an emotional boost today
4 x 50 under/overs
2 x 300 pull with Nike paddles
300 pull with Agility paddles
Having a super good week - swam 4 times so far, and feeling stronger each day. Life in general going well also. Just have a nice, happy feeling inside
Just an easy swim, after having been sick with a cold and GI bug all week. Home from work today to baby myself (started on the z-pack last night) and was starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel around noon. Just got in enough to get my hair wet, lol.
600 back/breast/free typical warmup
4 x 200 easy pull working on EVF and form
6x 100 50 drill, 50 swim
200 even easier
Sky was beautiful and made me so glad I got out of my sick bed!
Proud to be an American, BTW, on this anniversary of one of the most horrific incidents to happen on American Soil in recent history.
So achy this morning!. Hadn't been to the gym in over a week due to travel etc., so when I went this morning (late, bcs I stayed up waaay too late last night) it was super crowded & stretching out was actually not pleasant, but rather painful. The old body would happy for me to be a lazy butt. Went to the pool around 1pm & swam solo - the water was lovely & I got in a nice 3000 - focusing on the EVF again & comparing my speed & feel for the water with different paddles and stuff.
6 x 100 kick and drill
2 x 300 pull
200 easy breast
3 x 300, pull no paddles, then alt different paddles
100 easy & then out
Hard to believe summer is done for 2014. I don't feel like I got to enjoy it very much, with all the responsibilities that occupied my weekends this year. Humph. I won't mind a little bit cooler weather though, so I can go through my garage (to clean it out) without dying from heat exhaustion.
Went to a clinic this weekend with Sheila Taormina. It was really nice, and I was lucky that the attendance was only about 18 people, so a lot of individual attention was available. I was also happy to hear that my stroke doesn't really need a lot of tweaking (which I had already suspected) but it was a cheap way to get to meet one of my idols! She is very down to earth & I had a nice time. Bought myself some new stretch cords while I was there, as she had them available for about half price, and my son stole mine & took them to college with him!!!
So I only got in about 500 yards this weekend (at the clinic) with a 9 hour drive (each way) to Clarksville, TN to visit my son. Got in this morning serious about fixing my stroke, and amazingly enough, even though I was sorta slowing it down a bit, to focus on EVF etc., my repeats were about the same as usual. This is quite encouraging, because I suspect that once I recover the EVF (I'm sure I must've swum this was as a kid - else why was I so much faster?!!!) I will drop time in my events. At the moment, in practice, it seems to take off about 3 seconds per 100 yards. The only problem is that I'm out of breath, because I forget to breathe - I'm watching my stroke so much, lol!!
Hijacked off ATAC this morning, so it wasn't a complete solo swim, just a "beside them" solo swim.
12 x 50 kick @ 1:00
7 x 200 pull on 2:50
300 breast/free various
500 odds & ends
Managed to get nicely burned at the beach this weekend. Between that, and an awful itch on my stomach, I think we had a pretty good day.
4 x 50 @ :45
3 x 100 IM @ 1:45
2 x 150 pull @ 2:30
200 IM Twitch
1 min rest
2 x 150 IM Twitch @ 2:30
3 x 100 Pull @ 1:30
4 x 50 @ :45
Did the above on pretty slow intervals because we didn't have the illuminated clock & weren't really sure what that tiny little clock in the distance was reading!
6 x 150, first 3 breast/free; last 3 easy/mod pull
I have become lazy of late. I blame it on my impending birthday (tomorrow!!), but I think it has more to do with ATAC not being there in the mornings for about the last month, and having to train with others who get out at 6:30 -- so I tend to not stay in for the full 90 minutes that I used to. Additionally, with my new job, and longer commute, I really MUST be in the locker room at 7am, or I will be late to work, so it is easy for me to excuse myself, by saying that I need to get moving (towards work).
Anyway, felt sort of uncoordinated in the water today, if that is even possible. The pool is back to SCY until Christmas, due to the HS season.
Two times thru:
2 x 150 IM twitch on 2:15
3 x 100 pull @ 1:25
6 x 50 @ :45
Total: 330 SCY
4 x thru:
200-150-100-50; first time IM twitch, 2nd time swim (breath control & speedplay), 3rd time pull, 4th time swim
300 breast/free by 50's
Neck & shoulders super achy this morning. I suppose it's from putting shelf liners on & unpacking my entire kitchen (again). Fortunately, as I write this at noon, I am feeling MUCH better
Sorta tired this morning - weights and house construction are starting to get to me. One more day, and I think I might actually have my kitchen back, without the countertops, of course - that's another 2-3 weeks
9 x 150 warm up (10 free, 25 back/25 breast)
10x 200, some pull, from 3:30 down to 3:15 (fastest was w/pull equip ~2:55)arms were dead at this point - new paddles are KILLING me!!
**Superboy comes home from the Netherlands TOMORROW NIGHT!! He's been gone 2 years & I'm soooo excited! 'Course, in 2 weeks, he'll be gone off to college again. He's (in theory) planning on swimming again, so he's gonna have to hit the pool hard, having been out of the water for 2 whole years!!
Got a bit of a late start this morning, so was 5 min late into the water.
10 x 100 @ 1:45, down hard, back easy (came in ~ 1:30ish)
10 x 50 @ 1:00 25 hard, 25 easy w/zoomers
500 pull with paddles
500 free/breast by 100's
Still don't have a kitchen. Been practically fasting all week - a yogurt for dinner, 1/2 of a PB sandwich. My daughter had us over for roast beef last night, and it was heavenly! Two more days! Then I still won't have any water, I think, so not sure how I will clean my dishes, other than in the bath tub (just gross). But I've lost weight!

Felt sorta lazy today, the water was a tiny bit warmer, perhaps that was it?
10 x 50 @ 1:00 25 stroke/25 free (I think this is where I started to feel lazy)
6 x 100 alt 1:30 & 1:45
4 x 150 free/back/free
2 x 200 fast pull @ 3:15
500 steady state
Could NOT get out of bed this morning. Pleasantly surprised to see B Mrz there, visiting from China. Little funny this morning - near the end of our last set of 100's, I could see out of the corner of my eye, someone I thought was Marci - and I was agitated that she had "caught up" with me - and then I was relieved to see it was actually someone doing breaststroke! (B Mrz). Hahaha - he is so amazingly fast!
3 x thru:
200, 2 x 100, 2 x 50, first set swim, 2nd set IM twitch, 3rd set pull
10 x 100 on descending intervals
200 easy - I was toast
- OMG - I got new paddles, and went one of the last 100's with the new paddles and my zoomers and I did a 1:15!!! Not world record fast, but fast for me! Especially in practice after about 3500 meters!
Total: 3500 LCM
OMG, I can't believe summer is half over
Water was great this morning, as per usual, around 78 degrees, and since the young ones are at FLAGS (formerly Jr. Olympics) the pool was pretty empty until 6:30 am. Just me, Marci & Bill this am, I called the set.
500 pull no paddles
Four times through:
3 x 100 @ 1:30
4 x 50 stroke/free by 25 @ 1:00
Got one of the coaches to look at my stroke, and a tiny little tweak on my hand entry, helped me go from barely making the 1:30's to getting in at the 1:25 with ease. Humph. Gonna change my hand paddles!
400 IM drill/swim by 50
500 odds & ends cool down
Amazing how hand entry can affect your speed. Amazing.
First Weights, then a short swim. Felt kinda achy between the shoulders today, and kinda puny at weights. Was in a hurry, so I only did 2 rounds at each station, instead of three, and then at the pool, spent so much time talking I only went about 2500 LCM. Hurried over to the dentist for a cleaning then off to work. I have a lovely 55 minute drive, and the sky was lovely: sun shining, didn't see a cloud in the sky. 30 minutes after I get into work, the sky opens up & its suddenly pouring outside! Thunder - boom! Lightening! At this rate we'll lose power and all my charting will be paper - no EMR on these kinds of days, lol!
1000 warm-up with 400 of it drills
300 choice/warm down
Hard workout today - worked more parts of it than it seems like I have been able to lately.
1300 w/up which included 300 of drills
10 x 200 descending intervals, adding and taking away toys as needed
(zoomers only on last one)
3 x 300 "breast" - increasing amount of breast in each 300
Have been at the new job for 2-1/2 weeks now. The drive is no big deal, as long as I don't get mesmerized on the road - sure beats bumper to bumper traffic! Have to get out of the pool promptly at 7, in order to be ready to drive at 7:30, but I've taken to working nearly the entire workout. Water is amazingly cold (77) and inspires me to go fast, just to make it through the warm up. It's great after that initial shock wears off.
45 mins of weights first, then to pool:
5 x 100 pull @ 1:35
500 pull HARD - meant to time myself, but some moron moved the clock during my swim & it turned OFF. Great - well, it felt good, anyway.
Just can't seem to make myself wake up earlier than 4:50 to get to the Gym, and with my new job, I HAVE to gt out of the pool by 7 to be ready to drive at 7:30, so I only had about 35 minutes (or less) in the water today. But I felt goood
Had to take Traumeel tablets from the get-go (ah well, I'm still better than I was 2 weeks ago!!)
600: 100 free, 50 back repeat
400 of drills
3 x 200 pull w/20 sec rest between
300 kick (abandoned the board on last 100 thanks to my back)
4 x 100 breast/free @ 1:40 (the ONLY person on the team to do breast/free)
6 x 150 w/zoomers: 50 free/50 back/50 free @ 2:30, desc 1-3, 4-6
4 x 100 pull @ 1:40
Total: 4500 LCM
Last day at my current job. Bittersweet feelings about this. I will miss the people I work with here (won't miss some of my "problem-children" patients tho), but really excited to start a new chapter w/new people and new experiences, learning new things (like, hey, they are sending me to Botox camp in 2 weeks!). This definitely seals the coffin on lunch time swimming for me, except on the weekends, though.
Found out on Monday that a sweet friend is getting divorced - no more morning swims for her - she won't have the necessary childcare. Sooooo, suddenly my little problems seem rather insignificant now. SO grateful for a loving husband, wondrful children and a supportive family.
Weights first, as per usual on Tues & Thurs. Starting to feel tired again from weights, after nearly a month off (funny how I didn't feel rested when NOT doing them, but now that I'm back at the gym, my arms feel sorta tired - whatever)
Using warm-ups & cool-down to incorporate drills - encouraging muscle memory. Really trying to develop a more hip driven freestyle, rather than shoulder driven. I think I noticed somewhat of an improvement in speed w/out the increase in effort yesterday. Today I couldn't tell because I was swimming solo, "beside" the team - I just can NOT do dry lands on the concrete deck - it's too hard on my old body. So I go to Kinetix first, and arrive about 15 minutes before everyone jumps in, and since I have to get out ~7, I just go solo - which is boring, and makes it difficult to stay motivated. I'm so grateful I have people to swim with at least 3 x week. If I had a Saturday swim group, I would so abandon these early morning solo swims on Tuesday and Thursday.
10 x 200 @ 3:15, w/50 easy after #3 & #6 (halfway down & back)
My back is definitely better. Not perfect, but better. Was too lazy to get out of bed last night & take my celebrex & zoloft (which happens about every other day, lol) and haven't had to take the Traumeel since yesterday morning. Hope it holds and I can avoid re-injury, or hurting something else for a LONG time.
Back doing so much better today. I did have to get out after the first 600 w/up and take some Traumeel tablets (LOVE that stuff!) but either it went to work really fast (it does that) or I'm actually recovering (fairly possible, since it's been 2 weeks). Did pretty well on the 100's, which is actually an improvement from my usual lately. Could be in part because of the cooler water. They've got the aerators going and it's like 80 or 81 in the water (awesome!).
5 x 100 P @ 1:30
500 something (don't remember)
15 x 100 @ 1:30
500 kick locomotive by 25's
10 x 50 @ :50
100 cool down
I might not have everything right here - can't remember exactly what we did, just that I did enough at the end to make an even 5000 LCM.
I've been making myself get out of the water as close to 7am as possible, and seeing how fast I can get myself dressed (etc.) and in the car by 7:30, because I start my new job on Monday, and it is twice as far from home as I've been going, so I'll need to leave earlier. Don't want to give my swim time, so I need to be efficient not only under the water, but above it as well. (hehehe, pun intended )
*Biorhythms Physical 66% & heading up; Emotional 77% & heading down
coming in ~ 24 on #1, holding 26's thru out - felt good, it was hard, but not exhausting

My back was feeling great when I woke up. Unfortunately, once I started doing backstroke, it started acting up again. So, I guess the moral of the story is: avoid backstroke for a while.
2 x 300 drill/swim by 50
2 x 200 (breast) kick @ 4:30
5 x 100; 25 breast/75 free @ 1:40
6 x 200; 3 pull no paddles, 3 pull w/paddles @ 3:15
Total: 4500 LCM
Slept in this morning, for some reason I just couldn't fall asleep last night. So when the alarm went off at 4:45, I decided pooh, my back has been hurting so bad anyway, why even bother? Got home from work early and went over to the pool around 4pm, swam just a steady pace, making sure my back was ok. Did pretty well! Got in 3100 as follows:
600 back/free, breast/free
3 x 200 pull
600 kick/free w/zoomers (no board - kicking on my back)
3 x 300 pull holding 1:30 pace(ish)
200 easier than all the above!
Pleasantly surprised by how well my back held up. I think with a Jeanie massage tonight and full nights sleep I should be back in the saddle by tomorrow, or Wednesday at the latest.
