Just keeping it real . . . .
OK, back to the grindstone. I am not happy with my times this weekend. I think my 400 should have been closer to 5:00, my 200 closer to 2:20, the 100 IM closer to 1:20, and the 100 breast about 10 sec faster. SO. Soon as I get the energy (soooo tired from work!) I'm going to figure out how to get some light weights into the picture. The tennis will help a lot, I know - but I need to be sure and not play the week before I have a meet, just to rest up a bit.
8 x 150 P on 2:10
4 x 100 K on 2:00
10 x 100 swim on 1:20
500 speedplay by 50's
Led the lane on the 1:20's & kept them, but it wasn't pretty. I prefer a draft, thank you. 150's I went 2nd, but he was so far ahead it wasn't even funny, no draft there. I've had better practices - but that's ok - I know I was bushed. No swimming tomorrow - got to take the kitties to the vet to be spayed/neutered. Going to bed early.
Rowdy Gaines Classic - my first SCM meet -- perhaps ever. We swam in the diving well, which was the perfect temperature. Unfortunately, the "warm up" pool was like 75 degrees & I avoided it. That cost me dearly, I'm afraid. Tried to "warm up" in the shower before the 200 after my disastrous 400, and it did help, marginally. Not sure I enjoyed this venue so much.
100 IM 1:25 (3 sec faster than I guessed)
100 Breast 1:40? what happened?
400 Free 5:18 (12 sec faster than I guessed)
200 Free 2:27 (8 sec faster than I guessed)
Most of those "guessed times" were sort of conversion times that I rounded up from last year, so technically I guess that means I've improved? Felt horrible in the water. Went to Universal Studios Saturday afternoon until about 8pm (6 hours) & was so bushed didn't even bother to swim on Sunday. Ah well. Next time.
I actually got to swim at lunch yesterday - Surprise! And the water was wonderful! It was just what I needed. I've had a ruff week. Swam at 5:30am Mon & Tues, played tennis Mon & Tues night (getting home ~9:30pm) - so my sleep was impaired - I was so exhausted after tennis on Tuesday, I just couldn't get up Wed morning. But that night, did I get to rest? No. I had to go out & watch terrible community theater (because one of my daughters was the Stage Manager & head techie) gag. Then yesterday, I did get to sleep in, but got to watch my four most rambunctious grandchildren while my other kids went to same horrid show (from 6-11pm) - and they got back just as the debate was ending (and since son-in-law is an attorney) -- stayed until 11pm. Got up amazingly well this morning - and the water was: wait for it. 88F
Why? Geez. We had to get out and cool off three times before the coach threw in the towel & told us to get out. So, after exhausting myself Mon & Tues, I had Wed off, Thurs I only swam 2150, and today 2950. Might as well shave my legs while I'm at it.
3 x 200 P
5 x 100 IM on 1:40
8 x 100 on 1:30, (70, 80, 90%)
9 x 50 K on 1:00
200 cool down
Leaving for Orlando as soon as I can after work - 90% packed - just gotta grab my toothbrush & other toiletries & we're good to go. Four hours on the road, though.
Went at the crack of dawn again this morning - haven't been able to get away at lunch for a while - office is so darn busy! Got a meet this weekend, and I'm starting to really get butterflies in my tummy for the events on Sunday. What was I thinking? And why does the 800, 200 Breast & 200 IM have to be on the same day? Seriously.
So, swam solo today, since ATAC only does early morning practices MWF during the school year. Total of maybe 6 people in all 22 lanes. No one to push me, and I really just wanted time in the water & to work out the soreness from tennis last night. I had to hold myself back from going too hard - I was feeling really strong in the water this morning - but I know tomorrow will be a killer workout & I sort of need to rest a teensy bit for the meet this weekend.
2 x 300 P no paddles
5 x 200 on 3:00 - just steady state
6 x 150 IM twitch w/fins on 2:20
Total: 3500 SCY
I was planning on doing 7 x 100 on the 1:20 after the IM twitch, but again, I remembered that I should probably take it a bit easy today - which is why I didn't wear my paddles onthe 2 x 300 pull. I'm sure Terry has 9 x 200 or 12 x 100 on the 1:20 base tomorrow for me. Gotta take it easy while I can!
So excited for the meet this weekend! Feeling nice & strong in the water - not going to rest or taper - just swimming through it.
6 x 250; 200 free, 50 back/breast on moderate interval
8 x 50 on 1:00
2 x 300 working turns
2 x 150 breast/free
Total: 4500 plus anothr 600 that I can't remember how I did it.
Haven't been able to swim at lunch this week at all - and I have a tennis match tomorrow during ATAC practice, so I'll have to swim on my own after the match, I guess. I feel a need to be in the water at least 4 x week, especially with a meet next weekend! Today was a rather light day - most of the kids were going to Orlando for FSPA meet - a high school thing that is HUGE, and a big favorite for the kids. Kinda like State, but with no qualifying times. So anyway, lots of short stuff today - actually didn't have to do 12 x 100 on 1:20 for a change!
6 x 100 P on 1:20
4 x 100 K on 2:00
16 x 50 on :45
4 x 4-cycle speed play
6 x 100 on 1:30
100 long & strong on 2:00
6 x 100 on 1:45; 50 fly 50 other (w/zoomers)
I was feeling really good until the last 6 x 100 on the 1:30 - then I started off too slow - it was supposed to be 60% & I came in on #1 at around 1:21 - so I guess I thought he said 40% - but I just could never get up to speed after that. My "sprint" on the last one. . . . well, I thought I was going fast, but my time on the clock was deplorably pathetic & I refuse to share.
Feeling much better today.
6 x 100 P on 1:20 (led the lane)
300 K (75 fast, 25 easy)
10 x 50 @ :45
15 x 100 free on 1:20
4 x 300 breast/free
300 back/free to cool down
Total: 5000 SCY
I always have to stop and rest after 6 or so of the 100's on the 1:20. My goal is that by Wed next week, I can stop after 9 instead of 6. After all, I have an 800 to race in about a week & a half!
Not myself today. I noticed in warm-up - kept thinking, geez, why is everyone going so fast, don't they know it's warm-up? Just went down-hill from there. Here's what we did -
4 x 250 (150 free, 100 non-free)
8 x 50 kick
12 x 100 on 1:20 (barely made the last 3)
Moved over into a lane by myself so I could nurse my poor pathetic body - don't know what was the matter with me today - my lower back hurt, my neck hurt, my elbows kinda hurt, and I had no get up and go. But I did it anyway. It wasn't pretty, but, whatever. And I did NOT do any extra.
