  1. Saturday at the Rockwall Long Course meet

    We had about 80 swimmers at the meet which was a great turnout. Groups from across the region including, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Fort Worth, Dallas, Shreeveport, and a lady from California who was visiting family for the 4th July holiday, were all in attendance.

    I entered 7 swims but ended up dropping the 200 free due to its proximity to the medley relay and the mile. So I ended up swimming 6 swims in a meet that lasted about 2.5 hours.

    I went 4.36.xx on my 400 and honestly felt like I had a lot left. This was probably my best swim of the meet.

    The 50 free I went 26.46 which I was very pleasantly surprised at.

    The 100 free was my toughest and I died bad on the last 25 meters, and went 57.8. I was hoping for sub 57 so this was a little disappointing, but I really enjoyed this one since I had a close race, and despite coming out on the wrong side of the finish it was fun racing.

    The 1500 was right after the medley relay and I knew it would be tough to swim quick. I felt ok but it was just not a quick race and I went 18.41.xx.

    I led the medley relay off with a great back 50 and went 31.2. I was number three in the free relay and our relay had a great race with one of our other team relays, but yet again we just got pipped at the finish.

    We ended up with about 12 of the RAM team swimming which was a great turnout and it appeared as though my team mates had a good time. We went to the social and nearly all my teammates were there. I think we may be putting in a bid for masters zones next year and suspect we will have another meet next year based on the success of the first RAM long course meet.

    No swimming for me today, suffering from some melancholy this morning - although I was perfectly fine at Kinetix, came home to wait for the pool to open up, and felt like crying for no good reason. Went to the pool, and of course, the water was ridiculously cold (77), overcast sky (great boon to my mood there), and then it started to sprinkle, and right before I dove in, lightning. Of course. It's a good thing I have swum M thru F this week w/an avg of 5300 or so each day. I'm pooped anyway, and just need to rest. Was hoping for some sunshine & a swim to cheer me up, but oh well. Next week I hope to have an "adventure" w/a masters group in Jacksonville, as I have to cover a clinic there Tues thru Fri, and the next week, I have an endocrinology conference (woo hoo! Can't wait!) in Orlando at the Disney Swan Hotel - don't know if I'll get to swim those 3 days or not! I might bask in the lovely 88 degree hotel pool.

    I was happy with this swim. At the pool today, the kid's team and college girls (women) were swimming at the same time as us so there were 10 in my lane. I hadn't really planned to swim the whole work-out but since we did a lot of shorter sets I found it manageable and before I knew it we were at the end of our time. This is the longest swim I have done since mid-May. I was pretty tired when I arrived as I hadn't slept well-- on top of everything else, I am having some hot flashes so I was up at 4:30 am surfing the internet and watching Netflix. I found that as I got going I had more energy and was able to hold an actual pace on the pull. I am having some tingling (neuropathy) in my fingertips so the paddles helped give me a better sense of where my hands were in the water. This helped a lot and I'll remember to put them on when I need them in the future. My son is making me pancakes right now and I am ready to eat!

    • 2 x 200 Free @ 3:30 (held around 2:45s)
    • 4 x 100 Free @ 1:30 (held between 1:20-1:24s)
    • 8 x 50 Free @ 1:00 (did EZ swim ~:45-:50)
    • 1:00 rest between rounds

    On the final round I did pull...I was getting fairly exhausted on that long set...and my energy reserves were on empty

    10 x "50 IMs" @ 1:10
    going 4 strokes of Fly, 4 strokes of Back, 4 strokes of Breast, then Free to the wall

    100 EZ and out

    I have to work tomorrow. This weekend my day off got switched from Saturday to Sunday, so I don't get to swim in the morning. Oh well, I'm beat tired anyway.
