Commentary:

Just hopped in for some aerobic/hypoxic work today after a 6+ hour drive home yesterday. I find driving to be extremely tiring. I'm wondering whether I should even have done weights on Saturday ... No more from here on out. Shifting into taper mode.

I entered the Last Minute meet at almost the last minute. 100 fly (really 50) and 200 free (really 25 w/turn). I'm going to tell the referee in advance that I'm getting out on the 200. Last time I swam an event oddly (50 shooter instead of 100 free), the referee was extremely puzzled. I did succeed in finding my most stretched out suit with a partial hole to wear. I have an old TYR kneeskin that I guess I could use as well.

I still haven't seen the correction made to my name in the athlete entries for the NE Champs. Sent another email. I hate when they don't even list the meet director in the meet info or give other contact info.

I still need to dig up my split request forms too. I know I have the link on my blog. I just don't find the blog search function very helpful.

Apart from those minor details, I'm actually feeling pretty psyched for NE Champs. I don't have any specific goals other than to not do personal worsts and swim faster than I did at the Albatross meet. I would be happy if my 100 back & 100 fly were within 2-3 seconds of my times from last year.

I know there were recent meets in FLA, UCLA and DAM as well.

This weekend: South Central Regional Champs, Last Minute Meet, and SPMA Meet.

Don't know about other age groups, but attendance in mine still looks somewhat down with some key players possibly MIA in SCM.

IMO one of the most useful links on the USMS webpage is the Guide to Operations:

    Thank you!

I have never even seen that page, but you are absolutely right about it containing scads of valuable information.

You're really going for the 25 split on the 200??

Not getting a split. Just doing a fast 25 with a fast turn. Then getting out to warm down.

Will get an official 50 split on fly as I'm going to experiment with more SDKs than usual.

Really, I'm just focusing on starts, turns and breakouts. Then I'm doing a meet warm up the rest of the week.

Just curious--why do you get out of the competition pool before you have to? I'd find it tempting to enjoy my own spacious lane for the first 150 of the warmdown before heading over to the warmdown area.

Have fun at meet! It's great you get to experiment and fine tune before Boston.

Alot of key players are MIA in my age group too. I am MIA in the distance free events this year. But, you have Ed Moses in my age group. He signed up for SPMA.

My 150 warm down would be at such a glacial pace that I'm worried I'd hold up the meet. Last time I did that, I was mercilessly mocked. (Not that it will stop me from doing it again if I need a split time to count, e.g., 200 back at NE.) This time, I have no split time that requires finishing the race, so I'd rather warm down in the warm down area where I can be as pokey as I want.

I've never swum in two meets in a row. Speedo thinks a prior minor racing effort is good prep. Who knows? I figure I can use some start & breakout practice.

With the number of entries I saw for SPMA, I'm not sure they can do their usual bragging that that meet is the unofficial National SCM champs. There are a lot of fast swimmers there, of course, but there are elsewhere too. The fastest woman in most events in my age group, SVDL, swam at Ron John for example.

If all else fails and you can't remember website links, you can always find the split request form on the PV Masters Admin page: http://www.pvmasters.org/admin.htm . I have helpful links for local meet directors there. Maybe I should figure out how to add a link were you have to pay $5 via Paypal everytime you download a split request form...
