New Year...New Goals

Tuesday

Tuesdays are turning out to be my favorite workout day of the week! I'm not really sure what got into me today, but here goes....

I have been trying to find time to get to the gym to get my sore legs into the hot tub. I decided to get up early this morning to go to the gym. It's right down the street from my house. After about 15 minutes in the hot tub, I realized how early it was so I went down to the weight room for a quick lift. I ran into a woman with a Bay Swim t-shirt on so we talked for a while. Turns out she runs the masters swim program at this gym, but I cringed when she said that they swim from 5-6 am. Insane! You won't catch me there.

Did the normal Tuesday spin at the gym (same chain, different location) near my office. I go to the Tuesday spin more than any other day of the week. They offer lunch classes on M, T, Th. I like the T/Th instructors a lot. Thursday usually has a theme and the Tuesday lady is pretty chill, but intense at the same time.

After work I needed to run and by the time I made it home from work and walked my dog, it was too dark to run outside. I'm an outdoor wimp when it's dark out. I just worry so much that no matter how much reflective gear I have on, that someone won't see me. So, back to gym #1 for a run on the treadmill. I felt like crap for the first 25 minutes. Not good when you're only planning to run 4 miles. I stopped to stretch and decided to just stick with it and push through. I was just tight and sore, nothing injuryish. Ended up running 6 miles and feeling great for the last 30 minutes.

During the last 30 minutes of my run, I kept thinking about this 10 mile swim that one of my friends told me about the other day. It's in July in Vermont and sounds awesome. I know I can do it, I did an 8 mile swim two years ago across Lake Champlain. What's 2 more miles? LOL! But seriously, I'm thinking about it. Can I really train less than I did for Lake Champlain and still be ok? I am not sure that I can handle 20,000-25,000 yard weeks this summer.

After the run, I headed back up to the pool/hot tub with hopes of loosening up my legs.

Swam 500 yards, or maybe it's meters, I don't know. But 10 miles is a LONG WAY! YIKES!

Got back in the hot tub. Then home to eat as much as I could.

Tomorrow....just a swim

So I've been signing up for races/swims/meets for 2009 and it just occurred to me to look at the schedule through September. YIKES! And I really hope I didn't leave anything out.

Holy smokes! Are you really going to do all those events? Busy girl. That 10 mile swim sounds intriguing - I'm sure you can do it!

What I wouldn't give for a masters team that practices from 5 - 6am. I'm such an early bird - that would be perfect for me!

Julie, I am pretty sure the CGL swim is July 11.

You are doing Eagleman this year? I wish I had entered it. I tried instead to get into the Bay Swim but didn't make it past the lottery; by the time I found that out, Eagleman had filled. (Never again: I'm definitely opting for Eagleman next year.)

That totally stinks that you didn't get in through the lottery for the Bay Swim! Eagleman should be fun, I've never had a good 1/2 IM so looking forward to crushing it! It's going to be a busy year, but I think I can handle it! See you next weekend!

That is one packed schedule, girl! Ouch. Mid-to-late May looks really brutal. Don't you need any recovery time? Although I guess the Reston swims are a piece of cake for you ...

It should be ok. Really focusing on Eagleman so using Columbia and Reston sprint as more of speed workouts/transition practice, etc. than actual races. Eagleman and Savageman are my only "A" races of the year. The rest is just to gain experience, learn from racing. I never like to have an "A" race first on the schedule for the year. I forget so much over the winter!
