11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the downtown YMCA, coached by Priscilla.

Warmup:
200 free
200 IM drill
12x25 on :40, descend each set of 4
1-4 choice - I went back and actually got down to :24 or :25!
5-8 fly - I did one arm fly except for the last one
9-12 breast - coach has been working on my kick to keep my knees narrower. It's starting to come around and I'm feeling stronger on br again.

2 starts and 1/2 length sprints - fly and free
250 ez back and free warmdown

1000 meters

Well, I've succeeded in making myself nervous for the 500 free tomorrow. I think I will try to treat it like running the mile in track. Take the first lap out conservatively, build the second lap to strong and try to hold on. I will also try to keep track of my stroke count, since maybe that will distract me from the pain that I see coming!:-)

That's a perfect 500 plan. Think about even to negative splitting and control the use of your legs during the 1st 300. I've found counting strokes is a great way to avoid jumping out too hard too early, though I then generally stop or lose count over the last 150 to 200 yards.

What is your goal time for the 500?

And is this the same meet that Chris Stevenson is doing?

Yes, this is the same meet that Chris is swimming.
My goal is to break 7:00, but it seems very reasonable to me that I should be able to swim 6:40. Why is it that :40 50s sound much easier to me than 1:20 100s? I haven't done enough pace work in practice to have confidence in my ability to hold :40s. We'll see tomorrow. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

Well good luck in your 500, hope you meet or exceed your goal. Just try to keep at a good pace, give it what you've got left on the last 75.

Are you swimming any other events at the meet?

I can't even remember the last time I've swam a 500, even in workout. I used to do it back when I did meets, but that's been ages. Now you've got me considering trying to do one... I'm thinking of doing a meet on Mar 15, mostly focus on 100 free, but a 500 could be a nice challenge.

Are you the one who's moving to Germany? Anything I can pick up for you when I'm there next week?

Maybe some chocolate. Yep, my wife and I (and the dogs) are moving to Germany at the end of May.
I will also swim the 200 im, the 50 free and the 100 fly. It will be my first attempt at the 100 fly and I'm nervous about it already! I think it will be okay, especially if I feel good on the first lap of the IM. Where will you travel in Germany?
