New Year...New Goals

Saturday Swim

Ran 4 miles in the morning, felt pretty terrible, went back to bed for a little while. Woke up feeling much better.

Headed to the Lab School for Jeff/Wally/Clay's swim clinic. I've been helping them the last few months doing the video taping. Haven't screwed up or dropped the camera in the water yet...YAY! I did walk backwards right into the backstroke flags pole because I didn't realize I was so close to it and was fascinated by the guys stroke who I was taping. Oops. Good thing no one saw that!

We got there 30 minutes before the clinic started and they always talk to the class for 30 minutes so I had an hour to swim. The pool wasn't too crowded, I had my own lane and the water was a nice 81 degrees

2 times through:
500 free
200 back

2 times through:
1000 swim- even paced
100 easy
Cruised to a 12:26 on the first one (6:14/6:12). Backed off a little on the second one and went 12:47 (6:16/6:30). The 12:26 was 4 seconds faster than I swam the 1000 at the UMBC meet a few weeks ago. Jeff and Wally laughed at me. Maybe my body was more tired at that meet from the marathon training than I thought. I'm tapering now and starting to feel more rested/recovered!

400 swim- even paced

100 warm down

4100 yards total

Someday I'm going to try not to breathe into and out of every single turn. I tried it on the second 1000 and it just throws me off. Maybe more breath control drills would help.

nice, 4100 yards in an hour. Don't worry, I am always breathing into an out of the walls on the distance frees. You aren't the only one who needs to work on breathing controls.

    Nice LSD set.

I breathe into and out of the walls on longer swims....not sure that a few good breaths and a strong turn doesn't work out better in the end on long swims as one gets a bit older! But don't tell Ande and the other 15 meter pros. On shorter swims, it definitely helps.
