++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I expected the pool to be mobbed and it was, so I adjusted the workout and didn't make it too long. I did have half a lane in the wide end lane with a decent swimmer rather than a wide-kicking noodler, at least.

Had to take Sat & Sun off. I was in Pittsburgh deciding on renovations to a new house there. Did get a chance to see Jimby and Bill.

I signed up for the NBAC long course meet next Sunday on the off chance I am amped to get up at the crack of dawn. I tried to sign up for all four 50s, but was rejected for signing up for too many events. That's a first! I wish the 50s were spread out better, but as it's just a speed workout, it's not a big deal.

Maryland caps off the entries at 3 for some reason. Crazy.

Maybe they want the meet to end in an hour? I've never seen a 3 event limit before.

Traveling from any distance for only 3 events of ANY distance, sprint to long, isn't worth it in my book. If it's right down the road from your house, then I don't see a problem.

    Whats a "double shooter", a 50 no-breather?

Also, what kind of fins do you use?

I'm willing to travel for a multi-day taper meet swimming 3 events per day (typical for sprinters). Always. But I hear you. This is still an hour drive at an obscene hour of the am (for me). If I go, it will really only be to get some speed work off the blocks and, more importantly, hang with some friends. It also doesn't conflict with my kids' sports, which is also important to me (usually ). And it only cost $15!

Yes, a double shooter is a 50 SDK where I only breathe on the flip turn. I use the long blade and fairly stiff Water Gear fins. Great for dolphin kicking. Sadly, they are increasingly hard to find.

So, what time does the meet start? Usually we have warm ups at 7:30 or 8 down here in the south.

Warm ups at 7:30 but it's an hour drive away. I usually don't attend meets with warm up before 9:00, maybe one last year. With champs meets, it helps that distance is first. I'm a total night owl. Most of the world doesn't work in my schedule.

I hate the Calvinistic "early to rise, early to bed" mentality that permeates our country, as if it is somehow immoral to be a night owl! However, if this is the only time available, I shall do my best to rise to the occasion! And, perchance, to make so much racket in the compound that Leslie must arise as well! (Does anyone know how to humanely cause a Maine Moon Cat to howl screechingly? I should add that whatever this humane strategy is, it can in no way bite the orchestrator of said screeching in his innocent ass.)

Ahhh - totally understand. I love it when the first day they don't bother to start the meet until 11am! I like sleeping in too!

Multi day meets are rare for me, but I still do them with 3 events per day, (or 2 & 4 depending on the lineups). All the meets we have around here have a 5 events limit, except for the 2-3 day meets, 6 event limit (with no more than 5 in one day).

I've noticed that you're online at times while it's getting late over here on the west coast too.

I'm trying to remember whether other sprinters I know are also night owls ...

At least I never have trouble making sure Teen Fort comes home at curfew. What on earth do other parents do that go to bed at 9?

I didn't know a middle distance swimmer could be anti-Calvinist.

One reason we got a Maine Coon, dear Jimby, was that -- unlike my lilac meezer -- they do not howl or meow.

I forsee dragging myself out of bed so that I can hang with you and Jazz.
