Thanks for the articles. I'm glad that Runner's World posted a sensible reply. To think that too much of a good thing can be bad. 25 miles per week seems to be the threshold of what's considered unhealthy! (I'm fine with that ...my average is 24 these days.)

Wonder what they'd say about swimmers?...distance swimmers no less. They've got to be the toughest masters athletes among any given sport. Have yet to see one flounder ...literally.

Kudos to Matt Biondi. Grab starts and old school Speedos! If he keeps at it, there go all of Rowdy's freestyle records!

Great to see Biondia back. I loved watching the tiburon sprint thing with jäger.

fascinating dispute. it is anecdotally true in my experience, at least, that some hardcore runners DO start to get a prematurely aged look sometimes, perhaps a combination of sun exposure and a gaunt look, but it can be striking how unhealthy some of them look.

    Back in July (here): http://www.usms.org/forums/blog.php?b=23926
I mentioned talking with Tom Jager at our LSC Champs long course meet. We talked about various things, and mentioned a little about the "comeback race" or something like that with Biondi. Said not to say too much about it, but it was in the works.

24 is quite perfect. Imagine how many in the "more is better, harder is better" school could be wrong. The Runners World article does seem to rebut the mortality issue though.

Loved seeing tht Biondi is only doing the 50 free and 50 fly!

Runners look gaunt because running is a magic weight loss bullet. Also, running more than any other sport causes one to worry about racing weight. Plumper folk always have fewer wrinkles.

Hopefully, someone at Long Beach will video the races!
