Taper begins...

...And it's a good thing because I only had time for a 45-minute workout today anyway. Here's what I did over the lunch hour:

1500 fr moderate on 26:00 (< 25:30)*
5 x 100 IM on 2:30 (desc. from 1:46 to 1:37)
masters minute
2 x 100 free EZ

2200 SCY in just under 45:00.

*This was my warm-up and a little bit of aerobic conditioning... I think I lost track, so it may actually have been 1550, but I went with 1500 on GTD. Toward the end of this swim I was really starting to warm-up and feel a little looser/stronger, but I really didn't expect to be as fast after the weekend's hard work. This pace was really comfortable too; so I'm anxious to see how I do in the 1650 when I expect to be uncomfortable.

Tomorrow I think I'll focus on 100s and 50s at pace if I'm feeling good.

    When is your state meet? I was curious how long your taper was going to be.

    Saturday and Sunday, but I'm only doing Sunday since I'll be at a conference on Saturday. I've really been "tapering" since the last meet (3/3) in that I've had hard days and EZ days, but a lot less volume. I don't want to totally take it EZ because I've got the 400 IM and 1650, one of our Kenosha Y swimmers is drastically reducing yardage (2000 to 1200 to 500) in this last week (even after he did an EZ week last week), but he's doing mostly 50s at state. My volume has been dropping more modestly: 3600-4400/wrkout last week to 2200-3500/wrkout early this week down to 1000-2000 in the last two days before the meet. Hope that's sufficient!
