Apropos of nothing (race pace)

I did my Colonies Zones Revised Day 1 (100 back, 50 free, 200 free) race pace workout tonight about an hour after dinner, getting some extra help from daughter #3 who timed me on the 50 and the 200:
  • Warmup sets
    • 1 x 200: IM kick
    • 8 x 100:
      • 4 on 1:45, w/snorkel, cruise w/technique focus, but gentle descend
      • 4 on 1:40, swim, descend (1:22, 1:15, 1:13, 1:09)

    • 8 x 50: on 0:50
      • 4 w/agility paddles
      • 4 swim, descend

    • 4 x 25: odds backstroke half lap fast from a start, evens cruise

  • Race Day #1 Simulation
    • 1 x 100: backstroke from start, broken at 50 for 0:10, 1:08+
    • 4 x 50: active recovery free w/snorkel on 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, whatever
    • 1 x 50: free from dive, timed, 28.8
    • 4 x 50: active recovery free w/snorkel on 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, whatever
    • 1 x 200: free from dive, broken for 0:10 at 50s, 2:09.7
    • 5 x 50: active recovery free w/snorkel on 0:45, 0:50, 0:55, 1:00, whatever

TOTAL: 2,500 SCM

Commentary:
  • Judging by my real racing in LCM last weekend, these broken times have little bearing on what I'll end up doing, but it was fun to push myself.
  • I guess I'm going to some days of summer Nationals after all. I knew I had reserved a hotel room and was just double-checking which days I had done this; apparently, I must not have been paying attention as I booked a prepaid rate for Thursday and Friday nights of the meet. With that in mind, I then entered:
    • Thursday -- 200 free
    • Friday -- 50 breast, 200 back, 50 fly
    • Saturday -- 400 IM

  • On the very positive front, I'm getting no shoulder pain these days. I had a good PT session late today and should be able to get in again on Thursday.
