After a long rest

Week 58 - Tuesday

Rate this Entry
Prior to getting back in the pool last year I had a kidney stone issue which at the time was very painful and caused nausea. I saw a specialist and after initially seeing the stone on an MRI the stone disappeared and according to the doctor had probably passed. Since being back in the pool I have not had any issues, however this morning I woke with a dull ache in my lower right side and felt nauseous.

I decided that I would still practice to see if it was just how I slept that caused the feeling. Todays workout was pretty miserable and I am pretty sure something in my kidney is causing my discomfort.

Todays workout

Warm up
12x100 swim with snorkel on 1.20

Main set
10x300 on 3.30 best average
8x100 kick with fins on 1.15

Total 5000scy

My 300's were off today compared to my prior efforts on this test set and I held 3.10's throughout. Ironically this was my pace on the 1000 this past weekend so its not that bad or my swim this weekend was just slow(or both). I am going to try to get to see my urologist today.

Good luck with the kidney stones!

I wish I could hold 3:10 300s on an 'off' day!

    Yes, good luck with that.

I also wish it were that easy for me to do that on 300s. I don't think I could even do 1 x 300 and come in at 3:10 in a practice, let alone do it repeatedly with only :20 rest each time.

Thanks. The earliest I can get an appointment with my urologist is Friday. Assuming I don't get nauseous I will swim again in the morning. The issue is a dull ache in the lower right side of my back. It's not like when I first had the stone where I was doubled up in pain so I guess it could still be something else. I have to go to a walkin scanning place tomorrow for an MRI, so will do that after practice. Fingers crossed I will see you in the morning.

I have seen you swim, you can hold 1.03s a lot longer than me.

Thanks for the kind wishes. Fingers crossed they will be able to see it on the MRI and then they can zap it with ultrasoun, assuming that's what it is.

This morning was a big mental effort rather than a big physical effort. I have been working on my endurance but today was a real mental struggle with this dull ache in my lower back/side.

You have to wait until Friday? My wish for you is a quick, clear diagnosis and treatment ASAP. But even if you miss a few days of training, you are so talented that you will quickly return to the training level of your best test sets. Most important is to be well with no aches, pain, and nausea.

As i write the ache has subsided quite a lot but something is definately not right. Friday was his earliest opening. Needless to say I was not happy about this. The woman making the appointments was not helpful at all. I asked her to relay a message to the doctor to ask what i should do and heard back that I should go for a walk in scan tomorrow but there was nothing about pain meds or what I should do between now and then. Luckily I am feeling ok and I still have pain meds left from my last bought if it gets really bad along with meds to stop nausea.
