Those of us who were unsuccessful in the original Manhattan Island Marathon swim in June have been offered a second chance!

The organisers have been generous enough to allow us another go at the swim on July 24th. it's called a "quiet" swim, so shoosh please.

I've decided to take them up on their offer, as I know I'm capable of this swim.

Of course it means I'll miss the Kingdom Swim in Vermont

Kingdom swim looked like such a fun weekend with friends that it was VERY difficult to decide. But, well, I've done such a lot of training and am sure I can do it, one day.....

So, with 3 weeks to go until #2, I did my last long swim. I was in the water 6 hours, although this included toilet breaks. My white board was so brand spanking new I refrained from noting my toilet breaks out of respect, but here goes..

Ok, it's not much yardage for a 6 hour swim but I wasn't swimming continuously. I did a few of my favourite workouts and tried to keep my 100 times as consistent as possible. Consistently slow, that is.

To my friends Chaos, Gretchen and Kim doing the Kingdom Swim in Vermont..

"Harden the f%#k up!!" haha

good luck and I hope to swim with you guys soon!

Chicken.

    Amanda,

That's good news. Best wishes on round II. I know that you'll do great. Since I'm not a mega-distance swimmer like you are, I have a question. What do you do to re-fuel when you swim for six hours? Also, what kind of 100 pace do you try to hold for that kind of distance?

    Hey, tx Gigi, tx everyone.

    shhh

    yeah I'm on the list.

My brain and Visa card are in NY but my heart is in Vermont.

I was so excited to see Chaos, Clare and my NC friends for Kingdom Swim. I had the whole road trip/camping worked out. I was gonna be like Grizzly Adams, or Ben and Jerry.....

Maybe I'm just too slow to do the NY swim. I'm fairly new to swimming and am very mediocre. It's worth a second try though!!

HTFU guys and call or txt me on the day of the swim!
have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do..

    Hi Kristi!
I've only been swimming as a sport for 6 yrs so I'm pretty new. At the start I used Ensure for my distance stuff (but that was mainly cycling).
Now I use Perpetuem because it doesn't upset my stomach. It's worked out very well. I can mix it with hot water for cold swims too.
At the moment I take about 300 calories per hour of perpetuem when I swim at the pool. I'm still so very new that each swim is an experiment.

Hey Chicken, how do you motivate yourself to workout for 6 hours? I think that's amazing! I know you can do that NY swim too so just go there and kick some bootie!

    Tx Bob!
Kristi-I was swimming them on 1.25...you could probably beat that doing single arm free! Managed to keep the same pace though through the whole thing-give or take 1-2 seconds.
