50 grand for the week means i can take tomorrow off (from swimming) and give my water-logged left ear some dry out time. i hope my hearing returns to normal by the time dylan and friends come on stage!

mr d is sounding mighty raspy these days, but somehow it still kind of works for me.

sunday is an auction at williams lake

no swim races this weekend.... and thats just fine as last weeks event has still left a rather sour taste in my mouth.... all i'm going to say is (and you can quote me) there is no honor left in the honor system...... anyway, next week is the 10 mile kingdom swim in vermont. i'm hoping for some cold new england nights between now and then.

a nice LCM set this morning:
50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500 and back down on a 50sec per 50m base.

A question for you--what is the reason for the longer distances these days? I am concerned that I'm not doing enough yardage for the Kingdom Swim, although it's too late to worry about that now.
I've been averaging about 25 thousand yards a week, with some longer swims thrown in. My trip to Korea threw off the training.

I've been trying for a few years to determine what the right amount of yardage is for me with all of this, and I feel like I end up playing this guessing game each spring and summer. Perhaps time to hire an actual open water coach, at least to help me develop a plan.
I find that if I do much past 30, I'm pretty tired for work and hanging out with my little guy. That's with 3-4 days of running 7+ miles too, which I really think helps me cross-train.

I also always debate about what percentage should be long straight swims. I did a 12 thousand straight the weekend before last, and I always question the straight swims as opposed to Master's workouts. This year, the goal is finishing since I know with the Korea trip, I've messed with the timing of my training. This is my first 10-miler so John says I should just be excited to even finish it.

And as far as hoping for COLD New England nights this week--curses! I am hoping for just the opposite!!

    sydne,
i am hoping to do a few marathon swims next year including tampa bay, manhattan, santa barbara channel, and an english channel attempt (though i don't have a pilot scheduled yet).

i have been experimenting with different recovery formulas as i ramp up the yardage and have managed to remain injury free and less fatigued than when i was swimming half the yardage without attention to recovery. in summers past, i have gone it on my own... swimming mainly in the lakes and avoiding the masters workouts at the pool (which can get pretty slimey in the eves on hot summer days) but this year i have been mixing it up in LCM, SCM and OW. swimming the masters workouts with familiar company really lets me know where i am at and if i am over doing it (i'm not yet)

i think you will do fine at the kingdom.... pace and feed! (i think the champlain swim was >9miles last year)
    see you there!
