Ran 2.5 miles on treadmill today at varying speeds. Average HR was 165. Legs were not sore from weights which surprised me. I was a little tired though. Still can't figure out how I used to do crazy things like run 11 miles in the morning and swim 4,000 yards in the afternoon and feel great the next day. Surely one does not "age" 20 years in a span of 7 years.

This evening, walked 3 miles with family.

    No idea how you did that either ... Crazy triathlete! But my body has certainly fallen apart faster in my 40s than my 30s. I wish I had been warned better!

    I really started thinking about it and went back and looked at my journal from my crazy triathlete days in 2002. I had crazy days, but it looks like I was good about taking lots of days off as well. Maybe that is the key - go hardcore one day and just take days off in the middle.

    Here is what I did the week of June 24, 2002:

    Monday - off
    Tuesday - Ran 5 miles EZ
    Wednesday - Swam 3,000, biked 25, ran 1 mile
    Thursday - off
    Friday - Ran 8 miles at 7:53 per mile pace, swam 3000 meters
    Saturday - off
    Sunday - Biked 33 miles - averaged 19.1 mph, ran 10 miles at 9:00 pace

    The above week was probably when I was still being smart. Take a look at the below week. By then, I think I had gotten a little crazy. Keep in mind that I was just training for a sprint tri.

    Week of September 9, 2002

    Monday- Swam 3,000
    Ran 4 miles (did a two mile tempo run within run - held 2 miles at 14:15)

    Tuesday -Biked 25 miles (solo) - did 3 x 10 min. surges - averaged 18.7 for entire ride
    Ran 1 mile at 7:45 pace

    Wednesday- Swam 2000
    Weights
    Track workout: 1 mile wu, 3 x 1200 - held average of 5:08,1 mile cool-down

    Thursday - Biked 20 miles
    Ran 3.7 miles - 30:45

    Friday - Ran 4 miles easy
    Weights

    Saturday - Biked 26 miles - averaged 19.5; ran 2 miles

    Sunday - Ran 7 miles in 53 minutes
    Biked 30 miles easy - averaged 17.3 mph
    Swam 1000

    Can you say nuts?! It is a wonder I didn't pull a muscle or get a stress fracture. I'd had one two years prior, so you think I would have been a little wary. Just plain nuts.
