Swimming in the sun

The sun managed to peek out from the clouds for almost precisely the 40 or so minutes that I swam today, again at the Hilton Head Rec Center SCY pool. Too bad I left my mirrored goggles back at my parents' place for this:

  • Meet warmup:
    • 1 x 600: 200 fr - 200 IM k/d - 200 fr
    • 8 x 50: on 1:00, 2 each stroke, 1 drill, 1 swim
    • 4 x 100: on 1:40, descend free, went 1:02, 1:00, 0:58, 0:57
    • 1 x 50: easy
    • 4 x 25: on 0:40, 1/2 lap fast, alternate back & free
    • 1 x 50 easy

  • Quality work:
    • 1 x 100: quality free aiming for pace, went 0:55-
    • 1 x 100: active recovery
    • 1 x 50: FAST free, went 0:24-
    • 1 x 50: active recovery
    • 2 x (25-75):
      • 25 FAST free went 0:12- on feet on both
      • 75 active recovery

    • 1 x 100: active recovery

TOTAL: 2,200 SCY

  • Was feeling pretty strong today and more impressed with my 50 and 25s than my 100.
  • I found out yesterday that the pool in Orlando will be open at 5pm tomorrow for swimming so I'll not do anything until then.
  • Nothing to do but rest & relax from here and trust that I've done the training. I was comparing my workout history from 2008 and 2009 and I've swum something on the order of 70%+ more yards this year than last year through this week. Although I didn't track the intensity of workouts in 2008, I know from memory that these have been higher quality yards this year as well. There's no doubt that I'm better prepared than last year.
  • I did put in a last minute entry for the 100 IM on Saturday. The event wasn't originally in the program when I signed up, but they've added it. I'm about 90% sure that I'll swim that, but NOT swim the 400 IM. My fly and breaststroke are still a bit painful in my right shoulder, so I don't want to stress that too much on the longer IM, especially as it's the last event on Saturday and my #1 target event, the 400 free, is the 1st event on Sunday.
