    1600 meter swim

What would be an average time for a non racing 1600 meter swim in a pool. I realize there are a lot of factors as far as age and ability. 20 to 30 minutes 30 to 40 minutes?

The standard race distance is 1500 meters. Swim times vary depending on age, sex, ability, and pool length. A 1500 swum in a 25-meter-long pool is going to be faster than a 1500 swum in a 50-meter pool.

You can get an idea of the variety of times by going to:

I just did a couple of quick searches; here are the results:

    1500 Free, 2007, Men, ages 18-104 inclusive, 50-meter pool:
    Fastest swimmer: 17:07.98
    Slowest swimmer: 49:17.01

    1500 Free, 2007, Men, ages 18-104 inclusive, 25-meter pool:
    Fastest swimmer: 16:42.31
    Slowest swimmer: 49:02.00

Based on your term - "average" - I'd go with the 20 to 30 minute range. This should encompass 85% of the roughly 40 year olds.
