Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah and Happy New Year

...... to everyone who's celebrating (and to those who are not, as well).

Just back from the liquor store and we're closing early today.

..... Where, Oh, where did I last see my swimming suit? Oh well!

That's pretty impressive that you could close down an entire liquor store.

Wishing everyone nights of dripless candles, a merry Merry, and a bailout-free 2009.

Now, that's a celebration! Myself, I'm heading up to the Great White North to freeze in Calgary. Good thing my father-in-law has a full liquor cabinet and some great single malts on hand. If there's one (of many) things you gotta give the Canadians, it's how to celebrate.

Most fervently, I second the last! (But housing developers now want a bailout.... Perhaps health clubs with pools should ask?!)

A Grinch-free celebration to all, and good tidings in the New Year!

(I sang the Messiah Monday night, along with 2,000 others, at Lyric Opera House in Chicago, and my head is still full of oratory and 16th notes.)

The Messiah with 2000 others? How very cool!

It was very cool. The Do-It-Yourself Messiah, before there was one on every street corner. I played in the first 3 (viola), let it go for years, and decided to sing in this one. The venue migrated from CSO (yes, I played at Symphony Hall, Chicago!) via one or two other spots to, finally, the Lyric Opera for no. 33. I had not known there was such choral devotion to this work; apparently small groups practice for months. The tenors sounded great! And the soloists are professionals, often Lyric Opera stars.

The music is beautiful, whether one plays or sings. Exceptional solos - "How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace" - to massively contrapuntal choruses.

Went swimming today. Tried JMiller's "Fast, and fun" idea of 50 as fast as possible, with a long rest between. By gum, it worked!

Gave the health club attendants some holiday cookies from a French bakery, and Stollen. They were having a great day, with all the regulars coming in unexpectedly with wee gifties for them. Much joy.

Hoping that everyone in our damp little community is having a holiday suffused with love and good cheer.

For a real thought. "Be grateful for the things that you have & more thankful for the things that you do not have that you would not want!

Re: Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah and Happy New Year

I got a roomba and a scooba. My husband says now he is going to buy the one for the garage, but is skeptical of the one that cleans the outside gutters. I have heard mixed results, but they work better than what we do (which is nothing!). I hope the scooba gets smarter. After watching it for about 12 minutes, it did not go over one key spot on the floor. Needless to say, that spot is still there and neither of us plan on wiping it up until scooba eventually picks it up.

    I got a LZR!

Now, moving on to get Baby Alive to work. One broken barbie horse and one broken flying fairie within the first 24 hours. But the man dolls (slim pickings on handsome Ken's, so we had to supplement with the high school musicial guys) are still holding up well.

The Messiah is how I met my wife. I was in the choir, she was in the orchestra and we met while rehearsing and performing it 22 years ago.

Please do not encourage tenors. Everyone knows that these swine are a bunch of over-indulged prima donnas whose underwear is too tight. Second basses rule!

The gutter cleaner works great. It can't turn corners but cleans the entire length of straight gutters. Especially handy with a two story house where you have to climb a 30 ft ladder to get to the gutter.
