My wife's audi is in the dealer for a nav screen that stays on for hours after she turns the car off ??? Last week , no heat cuz the blower motor went out at 23,000 miles. Are Audis this prone to repairs?? They loaned me a 2014 A4, it;s ok for a small car with the 2.0 turbo motor. All the electronic goodies on the inside.

We had very similar issues with a late model Q5 on our lot; blower motor wouldn't work and a back up camera that would stay on for several minutes afters you took it out of reverse. Took it the Audi dealer 3 times before it was all fixed. Other Audis and VWs we've had have seemed to have had more than their fair share of electric/issues as well. Seems to be the trade off for having such exquisite interiors.

YEAH I have been told [ now] don't own a german car without an extended warranty! I was just reminded by you about the backup camera thing also. I'll call the dealer tomorrow about that! Thanks for the heads up on that gary.

Some warranties are just as expensive as the car.

No more little problems as of late. I will check the delayed backup camera thing when it gets warmer in May after Nationals.

Re: What are the cars/bikes/cycles you drive?

Here I go AGAIN off the the Audi dealer. Today the light came on when driving that posted "low oil press - turn off car!" 2,000 miles since the last dealer oil change. I wiped off the dip stick ,reinserted it , pulled it out , did this several times & could not determine if it was too high or too low because oil was all over the end? Called he dealer to bring it in & get a loaner. Hoffman estates audi in Illinois. Was told to bring it in next mon. Never a word about quick bring it in for dealer to check oil level WTF ???

Dealer replaced the oil sensor that was faulty. Never had a car with a bad one in my life. Vw/audi does have some elec. issues i have been told. By the way - 2 dealers tell me that they routinely over fill the cars that are known to use oil so that people like me that actually check the oil don't call them to say it's low!!!??? That's why the oil level did not make any sense cuz it was over the full mark & I could not tell what the level was. Great engineering audi !!!

I bought a set of used Nokian WRG-2's (now superseded by the "All Weather +" model) from a friend for the winter. These are supposed to split the difference between a traditional all season tire and a dedicated snow tire. They do have the Winter Service label, so they have met a minimum standard of snow traction performance that many supposed All Season tires couldn't meet. Unfortunately, I found them to be closer to an All Season tire than a dedicated snow or ice winter tire. The forward traction, braking, and cornering grip in snow were only incrementally better than some of the better all seasons I've had. On ice, their advantage over good all seasons was similarly minimal. I've had General Altimax Arctics in the past, and they had way more traction in snow, and were a little better under braking and cornering. They were also a little better on ice. I've also had a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks (can't remember which model) which weren't quite as good as the Generals for snow traction, but were a little better for braking and cornering. They were about the same as the Generals on ice, and better than the Nokians in any winter weather situation.

The only good thing about these particular Nokians is that they are quieter, and perform better better on dry pavement, with more grip and better responsiveness. I know Nokians have a great reputation and I'll probably try one of their more dedicated winter tires sometime. But I really couldn't recommend the All Season + series tires unless you live someplace where you only get a light snowfall two or three times a year....and you have something with AWD or maybe FWD. I would definitely not recommend these for any RWD car for any winter service; if you're going to go through the hassle of having winter tires, you'll need something with much snow traction for RWD.

Re: What are the cars/bikes/cycles you drive?

With spring here, I just took off my Dedicated Pirelli winter tires. They were on my 2006 corvette since Nov. Thru 5 inches of snow and the mush, they work really well. I was happy that they made tires for my car. Yes "all season" tires are a compromise for moderate snow/ice. I am willing to have another set of stock wheels to put the "snow tires on and have much better control and traction all winter long.

Winter is over -- I have made the commitment - I uncovered the Gold wing motorcycle & rode it today. Chicagoland is 77 degrees and sunny!
