Yeah!!! Pirelli winter tires made it possible for me to get out of the house today in Chicagoland. 2 degrees last night & cold this thur. afternoon as well. We have friends in Fairbanks , Alaska that sometimes are warmer than us lately???

Great news --- the doc says as of today1/2/14 , I can start to walk & swim on the repaired hip - if I take it easy.

After 3 1/2 months of no walking , no swimming, no oil changes or any car or house relayed stuff, I can start to walk & baby sit the grand kids again!!! I'm looking forward to spring so I can clean up the vette since I have not been able to wash it in the snow & salt of Chicagoland this winter with my limited driving the last month. Yes, I drive it in the snow!! Thanks to all for the good wishes!!

Why 2 TDI's?? Here in Chicagoland anything with a diesel in it will be hard to start in the next few days with -18 f coming to town.
Do you plug it/them in where you live in colo?

Ah yes, Chicago! I lived there (Orland Park) for 10 years before moving to Colorado. I don't plug them in but I do use a fuel additive that raises the cetane levels in diesel and help prevent freezing.

That's a good solution. TDI have great torque for the mts. I grew up in Burbank/ oaklawn area , 79th & central,on the southwest side also.

For all the "fair weather " fans of vettes out there, I took the 2006 Z 51 vette to the gym yesterday & the temp. was minus 17 f in the snow!!! Heat on ,seat on, Pirrelli winter tires on & a 60 lb. sand bag in the hatch! hot fun in the winter in Chicagoland!!

I've got a late 90s Corolla, which I will be trading in for an Audi A3 in April/May. Maybe I'll rationalize it as a congratulatory present for doing well at Nationals (provided I do well, of course).

Currently without a bike, but looking at purchasing one of the Motobecane titanium road bikes at some point this spring.

The Toyota's we have had seem to run forever! You will like the Audi. A hint - do not drain the oil with the drain plug, it will strip very easily!!! I purchased a "oil extractor pump' for about $60 to do it myself. It will pay for itself the 1st time you use it compared to the dealers cost of an oil change. Also you will like the all wheel drive if you live in snowy areas. The DC area seems to get a lot of snow this winter.

Pats dept. I went to the Doc. today to ask why 5 months after another hip surgery adding a claw, a plate & 6 Titanium cables does my hip hurt sooo munch. Well - he says cuz the muscles & Bersa are being rubbed over the parts & that irritates them. He can take out the parts next year!!! that would be hip operation # 5 !!!!!!!!!! Is there a "lemon law" on implanted parts??

There is a class action law suit in the works for hip implants...the commercials are all over the tv and radio here

Re: What are the cars/bikes/cycles you drive?

Yes, I'm checking into those. From what I have learned that a "class action" suit puts me in with 1,00's of others. If I file my own suit with a good lawyer, I can be much more specific in my injuries & 4 surgeries. This has been impacting my life & swimming since the 1st replacement in 1999!!!

OK I have given up on our winter in Chicagoland. I took off the winter snow tires & put on the summer tires in the Chrome wheels!!
Sat & su will be in the high 6's to low 70 range! Come on summer!
Then I see on the weather channel ---- 1 -3 inches of snow possible mon!! COME ON !!!

It won't stick anyway. Bringing my toys out of storage this weekend as well, and I took the snow tires off about 2 weeks ago now.
