Re: What are the cars/bikes/cycles you drive?

I drive a Subaru Outback wagon...the Colorado state car. It has a ski and bike rack. Very hard to find in the Copper, Vail, and Breckenridge parking lots. I once spent 25 minutes trying to locate it at Copper Mt.
My bikes are : Road = Serotta Firenze which is 2 years old I love it..carbon and titanium frame.. A Cannondale 2000 which is 10 years old... good for traveling or as a spare bike (The aluminum frame makes my hands go numb). Cyclecross= Specialized...great for riding on pea gravel.

Re: What are the cars/bikes/cycles you drive?

I drive a used (5yr old?) Toyota Corolla which we bought used late last spring after our 17 year old daughter wrecked our used (10 yrs old?) Toyota Camry which we bought after the same 17 year old daughter wrecked our (10 yr old bought new) Ford Taurus Station Wagon in the early spring. What a bad year that was. At least no one got hurt. I love this car to pieces, but I miss the station wagon for the dog and throwing the bike in and for napping in.

My bike is a 1978 (?) Fuji Royalle II. I should probably invest in another, but I'm kind of used to this one and it gets me around town all summer long. I believe people snicker when I go bring out this bad boy at my yearly triathlon

I drive a 2001 Saturn SL1 with 155,000 miles on it. So far, no real repairs other than the expected (brake pads, serpentine belt, etc).
The Court Without Appeal drives a 2004 Saturn IonII that has 57,000 miles on it. So far, no real repairs at all.
The thing with Saturns is that you need to change the oil religiously.
Also have a 1992 Ford F-350 dually-diesel truck (110,000 miles) that we use to haul horses (with a three-horse Sundowner livestock trailer).

Prius, of course. Got it last September. Gotten up to 54 MPG. In cold weather my mpg can drop to as low as 42 mpg! But that's twice as good as most people ever get, I reackon.

I drive a Saturn Astra with a bike rack for my old old Caloi road bike or new K2 mountain bike (depending on my mood).

Vehicle: 2004 Toyota Sienna LXE AWD. I just bought it used with 70K. This thing has more options of any car I have ever seen: sonar for parking/cruise control, backup video camera, the works. All the gadgets should start breaking soon.

Bikes: Mt. Bike - Carver 96er: 29" wheel in front, 26" in back. Helps to clear obstacles while maintaining tourque. Custom built in Bath, Maine. Town Bike: Bianchi Boardwalk with tag-along attachment for my 4-yr old and a burley trailer for my 2-yr old. All together, this Suess-mobile is almost 16' long, our daily commuter.

You wouldn't have that problem if you converted the Subaru into a "swimmobile". Click on the photos below...

Nice window sticker below Vermont on the Audi.

My "swimmobile" is a Chevy Suburban. You can transport 8 with space. I like to have the assurance that if you make a mistake and collide with me or me with you, I will run you over like you were driving a Prius. It is no fun coming to an abrupt stop at 65mph. I will take the large vehicle over any other, any time. Mostly to protect my family.

My other vehicle is a 2009 Pontiac G8. My Ford was "found on road dead" after 120,000 miles. Test drove a bunch of vehicles and decided on this. I drove 15 other similiar vehicles and wanted to help out the economy, so bought American. I did not even step near anything from Asia. Junk.

I also have a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback 2 x 2. I rescued it from a barn in Henry, Co. Ohio. Was infested with mice. All original mechanics. 20 year old breaks. I had to rip out the interior and now am working to replace the upholstery, headliner and reinstall the interior. The clutch is frozen and has to be replaced. We had to knock off the right rear drum to get it to move. It is far from being a piece of sh** car, though. The paint is good and the chrome is shiny. No rust. Anywhere.

1989 Trek Singletrack MTN Bike with all original mechanics. Same cables. I have ridden it on trails in 38 states. Wrecked it many times. Taking it to Wyoming and Colorado this summer. I love that bike. Last summer we rode a National Forest trail outside of Munising, Mi. Pulled a kid trailer the entire way. My son was covered by all the mud flying up from the backtire. If you are ever in Munising, eat at the Shark Bar.

Mostly it will be you doing the colliding, bec. you can't stop as quickly or swerve to avoid as quickly and efficiently as a smaller vehicle. You are driving merely an illusion of safety.

Why would I be stopping quickly or swerving in any vehicle? Put yourself in a defensive driving mode and you shouldn't be doing either. Get off the phone and drive your car.

If you were in the wrong and hit me, you would be colliding with me. As I have said before, coming to an abrupt stop is not fun. I have never hit anyone. People have hit me. Being in a big vehicle protects me more than a Prius would. I heard a comedian say, "My buddy bought a SmartCar. He had a fender bender. Someone backed into him in the church lot. Broke both of his legs." When you think about it, that is really funny. I'll take the large car.

Hey Shark - too bad for GM and Chrysler that there aren't more vehicle buyers like you.

    Asia-brands of vehicles are junk?

    I have a Volvo XCountry/schwinn roadbike/specialized stumpjumper mountain bike (that's fairly old).
