New pool at LA Fitness, Chgo (Randolph and Wabash)

Cursory review: send in the noodlers!

I was drawn in the first instance to check out the pool on opening day because it and its environs are fully visible through floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the Pedway running from Millennium Metra station (Randolph) to Macy's and beyond. Pool is 3.xx feet at each end, sloping slightly to 4 ft 5 inches in the middle. Three lanes, warm to fingertip feel, and fairly obviously not intended for serious swimming (it looked as though the designers didn't have a clue). A shame. Row upon row of push-me-pull-you thingamabobs and an expensive rehab of the space. Oh well. I'm sure I'll have ample opportunity to stand outside the club and observe what happens in the pool.

Then I rushed over to my glorious art deco pool - ecclesiastical! a friend said - which is 10 feet at the deep end, and threw down a mile. By happenstance, I've been in three promotional videos shot in the pool. For one I held a contraption at the edge of the pool and smiled, Betty Boop-like.

I swim at an LA Fitness here in Carmel a couple times per week. It's okay. The water is a little too warm but I usually have a lane all to myself the whole time. The main reason I joined is because I can go right after school instead of waiting for the 7:30 pm swim at Carmel High School or the YMCA.
Due to no gutters or backwash the pool gets really wavy if there are 3 or more swimming. I just figure that's good ow training.

I swim at LA Fitness now for the most part. Pools don't have many lanes (one I swim in only has 3). Usually you can get a lane very easily. And lots of the water classes don't have many people in them. Forget about any kind of masters program. BUT the price is right!

I belonged to LA Fitness for awhile. Never again.
    • The pool was poorly maintained
    • As others have noted, it was often hot
    • They make you jump through hoops to cancel

I won't go into details here, but if you're curious PM me.
