    Re: The Breaststroke Lane

Thank you Allen for the reply earlier about gliding during a 50, 100 and 200. My next question for everyone is what do you do in the weight room for breaststroke? Are there any good exercises or routines for breaststroke? The stroke itself incorporates so many muscles its hard to figure out what would be the most beneficial. Any guidance or insight for this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Also amazing is how much his stroke has changed in the last year.

Here he is in the 2012 NCAA 200 breast finals. Cordes is in lane 5. His stroke count is 4/5/5/5/6/6/7/8. 46 strokes. Time 1:51.97

    BORKED

Here he is in the 2013 finals. Stroke count 3/4/4/4/4/5/5/6. 35 strokes! Time 1:48.68

    BORKED

Is this an evolution, or a revolution?

Watching Cordes' breastroke is like watching Thorpe or Popov's freestyle, or Mary T's butterfly. I've watched that video 3 times already and will probably watch it many more.

FINA,get some courage and eliminate dolphin kicks from breaststroke.

OHHH! But what a fine rant it was!!

Funny, but as I read King Frog's mini-rant, I was thinking about you Woofus! I thought to myself, "Ha! Woofus should be reading this; it's right us his alley- ummm; make that 'lane'." Sure enough, as I continued to get caught up on this thread during my travels, I read on and found that, indeed, Woofus B. Loofus, FINA Rant Specialist, chimed in.

    Re: The Breaststroke Lane

Cordes 1:48.6 200 Breast has to be the swim of the meet,
well along with his 49.5 split on the relay & his 50.7 new AR is awesome too.

    2013 Men's Division 1 NCAA 200 Breaststroke- A Final

    splits: 24.6 27.5 28.5 27.9

    S P L (strokes per length) was: 3 - 4 - 4 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 5 - 6

At the 100 he took 15 strokes & went out in 52.1!

I'm real curious to see how he does long course

    2013 Men's Division 1 NCAA 100 Breaststroke- A Final

Thanks Swimosaur for his year over year stroke count comparison:

    2013 finals SPL 3/4/4/4/4/5/5/6. 35 strokes Time 1:48.68
    2012 finals SPL 4/5/5/5/6/6/7/8. 46 strokes. Time 1:51.97

btw Vlad was no slouch either with relay splits 17.8 & 40.4 & the new AR 40.7
but this is the BR lane

I thought the current confusion was whether or not swimmers could sneak in an extra kick at entry (while the splash obscures their view). That clearly wouldn't be the case by the time the swimmer nears the 15m mark. If you're going to let them SDK all they want to 15m after the start, why bother to restrict the swimmers to a single SDK after each turn?
Having different rules for the underwater on the start and turn is very strange. Also from the article it sounds like breaststroke in medley relay would also be limited to 1 dolphin kick on the back to breaststroke exchange. As a weak breaststroker at first I thought this would be good for me, but I already go past 15m on my breaststroke dive so there isn't much benefit if I can't use it on the turn or in an IM.

Hey, here's an idea! Instead of seeing how outlandish we can make breaststroke rules, how about a return to what the stroke is supposed to be about? No dolphin kick allowed anywhere at any point in the race.

SCY never has UW footage. We've got to see this stroke in action and disassemble. Curious how much it changed on the last length . Does br have much more to offer?
