    It's worth a shot.

I'm thrilled with my new 1600m PR of 26:37. (24:59 at 1500m.) This is 64sec faster than my previous 1600m effort, which I confess was many weeks ago.

    Aw, thanks Steve.

I'm happy to have registered for my second swim meet, on November 16th. I entered the 400m FS SC, and seeded at 6:05. My current best is 6:15. I can knock 10sec off in the next 7 weeks, right?

In spite of being restricted from swimming at all until the surgeon's say-so, I'm happy to have had my discectomy on Friday, because it'll mean (eventually) swimming without pain during or after.

Best wishes for a speed recovery, 'Badger! I had a laminectomy & discectomy of L5S1 back in 1987 when I was only 25 years old. It was 100% successful, and I have never had a problem with my back since. Here's the key: DO EVERYTHING YOUR PHYSICAL THERAPIST TELLS YOU TO DO! Then, after you are released from PT, keep on doing the exercises for the rest of your life. Seriously. I practice what I preach!

I'm thrilled with my new 800m PR of 12:56 today, down from 13:09 in August. (I'm especially happy with the 3:15/3:15/3:14/3:12 200m splits. Sometimes I've died off the pace in these longer swims, and that is an unhappy feeling.)
    Current PRs: 25m-:17.3/50m-:37.5/100m-1:22/200m-2:57/400m-6:15/800m-12:56/1600m-26:37.

My main swimming goal: Sub6min 400m by the end of 2019.

Thank you! I'm told it was a big ol' chunk of disc but no complications, and I really haven't had much pain. The plan is to do everything the surgeon and PT says to the letter. I hope I can at least get into a pool soon, though, just to float around.

    Re: Swim happy

I'm very happy that I have re-arranged my swimming somewhat. I now feel the need for an easy 800m at the start and end of every session. This beefs things up a bit, and it feels like I'm warming up / cooling down better.
