    Thanks.

My happy new 100m PR is 1min26.0sec. I went HARD on the first 50m, because I think I was being too cautious on previous 100m starts. However, my last 10m felt like I was swimming in jello.

    I think I was 41-high/44-low. (Pushing off.)

I'd love to be at 1:22 by the end of the summer.
    Current PRs: 25m-:16.8/50m-:36.5/100m-1:21.0/200m-2:55.5/400m-6:15/800m-12:50/1600m-26:37.

My main swimming goal: Sub6min 400m by the end of 2019.

    Re: Swim happy

    This morning I swam 400/200/100/50/50 warmup + 400 PUSH + 400 cooldown = 1600m total.
The lanes were quite busy when I started, so I wasn't expecting to do My Thing. "Do some kind of a session. Do what I can." That is the best philosophy to have, especially on weekend mornings.
But lo and behold, at the end of my most excellent warmup, people jumped out of my lane. My uninterrupted 400m PR attempt was on. (6:32 last week.)
I got to 200m in 3:13, feeling fantastic. But I faultered/slowed in the second half. I believe that I lost concentration on good form as I tried to bung.
    Still, I swam 6:29!!!
In the grocery store parking lot I bumped into an old running friend. We talked about knees and swimming. She implored me to go to a particular place where I could be fully cured. And then I said something profound. I said:
"Even if they gave me some injection, and I could run as much as I liked, without consequences, I know that I'd just continue to do swimming."
The sun was shining brightly. Off in the distance an owl could be heard.
    Current PRs: 25m-:16.8/50m-:36.5/100m-1:21.0/200m-2:55.5/400m-6:15/800m-12:50/1600m-26:37.

My main swimming goal: Sub6min 400m by the end of 2019.

    Re: Swim happy

My most recent swim happy was last weekend. I swam in the Chattanooga River Rat “race” for 4.5 miles. Not only did I maintain a steady clip for most of the way AND managed to pick it up the last 500 or so, but not one negative self talk nonsense entered into my head the entire swim. (How odd is that?!!). No wonder I enjoyed it! It’s been a long time since I talked nice to myself. 😊

Good job, Celestial! It's amazing how much the mind can be your greatest muscle in a race, especially a longer one.

Aw thanks folks. I read every post here, and I want to say "great work" to every one, but that would be too much, right?

(Come to think of it, maybe I post here too much. Maybe I should do a weekly summary of my happiness?)

Well......off to the pool for 200m day.......

I'm happy that I will never swim in the Palm Beach area at 5am.

    (Too soon?)

Thanks Mods for all that you do.

    LOL!

In other news, I'm happy because I feel like I'm getting used to long course swimming again.
400 IMer/200 backstroker in another life, now sprinter/breaststroker... Yeah, I don't know how that happened either!

Wow! I don't visit here for a bit and you get faster and faster. Way to go! Especially mastering flip turns. When walls become your best friend you're really doing something right.

Me, too! I can get up early for the workouts and feel comfortable in a 50M environment though after three weeks of it I'm still trying to figure out how to sprint in LCM again. I'm planning to use this summer to train hard (stamina + technique) and see about competing LCM next year.

And fwiw, I've not a clue what the whole PB/5am stuff is but i assume it involves Drama.

Thanks!! I have to confess that I'm slowly getting into flipturns, and I do them on cooldown / drills, not my swim-proper. This could take a while!!

    Re: Swim happy

I'm happy with my new 400m PR of 6:27, down from a recent 6:29.

I tried a longer warmup today: 800m easy + 4x100m. 800m seemed excessive a few weeks ago, but now I believe that it will be the usual start to my sessions.

I recently decided that 800m/1500m as an effort/race/event bores me. I'm quite happy to do 50m to 400m. Nobody will ever mistake me for a "sprinter", but those 4 events are what I want to do/try.

I'm also very happy to rejig my weekly schedule to take this new/narrower focus into account. (My sig!!)

You are welcome and don't worry: there is no rush with flip turns. Going slow is a really good way to go about it. Confidence in them is essential to getting faster with them. Plus, this is Masters swimming. We get to do it at our own pace and that is half the battle to doing it right and having fun while doing it. At least that is the way I'm going about it now. When I started swimming last fall after decades away one of the first things I did was study the flip turn again. The Race Club videos are really helpful to me & the "race club flip turn" is basically what I'm doing now. (Their flip turn videos are on Youtube.)

Cool! I hope you realize that you have now mastered Master's Swimming! That is all it: doing what you want to do and having fun doing it. Good job Skuj!

I'm happy to report that I am a Newbie Idiot, and much reading tonight convinced me that 800m/1600m efforts in training will benefit my beloved 400m. Sig updated. Goal 4 sessions per week.
