Excellent! A lot can happen in 3 years, but I would love to go to a Worlds that doesn't require me traveling halfway around the globe. So this is perfect. Although that probably means the competition will be stiff.

Can you still compete in three events if you don't qualify? Montreal is on our travel list, so if we don't get their before 2014, I would love to go to Worlds! (Maybe by then, I will qualify... ) Correction: I do qualify for my three events already; I was looking at the men's instead of the women's! (Hmmm, this just happened on that other thread...)

Montreal and Quebec City (and points in between) would be an awesome trip!

No, you have to qualify for all events at Worlds. And if you swim an event at Worlds in a final time slower than the qualifying time, your final time will not be published in the results.

Do you know how long the qualification period is? Will times I went this year be good in 2014?

From the Montreal Gazette, parse the meaning if you can ...

Montreal to host FINA masters swim meet in 2014

MONTREAL - Six years after hosting a prestigious and, in the case of Montreal, costly and controversial edition of the World Aquatics Championship, city hall has announced that it will take the plunge again and host the 2014 edition of the World Masters Championships overseen by the Federation internationale de natation (FINA) ... mayor Gerald Tremblay said in a communiqué that the Masters Championships will enjoy access to the city’s installations ... those installations were established as part of the 2005 World Aquatics Championship ...
The 2005 World Championships were held in Parc Jean Drapeau. The link points to a satellite image of the two adjacent 50 meter pools in the park.

The Gazette article implies that the meet will be at Parc Jean Drapeau, but doesn't come right out and say it. Still, [ame="http://forums.usms.org/showpost.php?p=243848&postcount=81"]I bet that's where it will be[/ame].

According to the press release, the other candidate for the 2014 Masters Worlds was Buenos Aires.

I age up for this meet, so I will be there!!!

Lucky for me, it's easier to qualify for Worlds than our Nationals. Instead of qualifying for just the 50m breaststroke, the times are slow enough to qualify for all three breaststroke events.

So, where are Worlds in 2012 and 2013?

The Worlds cuts from 2010 do seem remarkably soft in comparison to USMS LCM NQTs. I wonder what they will be like in 2014. Softer cuts don't make placing well easier though. There were a lot of fast swimmers at Goteborg judging from the results. Worlds are every two years aren't they?

You don't have to worry about it, Greg. You'd be under the qualifying standards if you decided to swim with just one arm. The Worlds cuts are considerably slower than the USMS National cuts. But, as Anna Lea mentioned, really anyone can swim any event (as long as you seed yourself under the cut). It's just that you get an "NT" or something in the results if your time at Worlds end up being over the cut. I don't believe there's any more thorough vetting of seed times at Worlds than there is at USMS Nationals.

very cool, bet it will be fun

btw if you put the "2014" first in the title, ie:

    "2014 Masters Worlds Montreal"

then forum members can sort threads by year and it will come up
That's why many forum members here put the year FIRST in the titles of
    threads about particular events

    Ande

I am so there! And if this uses your age as of Dec 31, I will be at the bottom of my age group...I think. Sweet!

It's strange that Worlds are going to be closer to me than Nats ever are....I can't wait - I hope to see a lot of you there!

the cut times are more than generous for the 45, 50 and up groups
