As crazy as it sounds, Laura Val has set 42 world records this year. That is a Hall of Fame career in 12 months. Unreal.

No question Laura is very special, but, nothing comes easy, she trains a monster weekly schedule and earns these records with tremendous work.

I'm really impressed with her 100 breast. She swam a 1:00.29! Breaststroke was always her weak stroke before. I guess it still is, but obviously not much of a weakness anymore. If she doesn't swim the 200 IM at Olympic Trials I'll be very disappointed. What an amazing swimmer she is.

I'd love to see what her schedule looks like.

Sounds like she's fully embraced [ame="http://www.usms.org/forums/showpost.php?p=220158&postcount=1485"]SFF Tip 265[/ame] for years

At the US Swimming nationals (LC meters)
    Ed Moses - 31
    100 Breast - 1:02.11
    200 breast - 2:14.5
these break the old listed records, but also Brendan Hansen is listed as age 30, so his times:
    100 Breast - 1:00.31
    200 Breast - 2:09.64
are the new records for that age group - and as he continues his comeback, we can expect even faster this summer.

As far as I can tell, the last time Hansen registered for USMS was in 2006. (Non-members cannot set USMS records.)

    She did it!!

Diann Uustal set a new WR today in W65-69 100 back, finishing in 1:17.95, breaking the old record of 1:18.81, set by Margit Ohlsson as recently as September 30. Diann also broke her own WR in the 100 IM, touching in 1:20.86

Here's an update for the table I posted upthread, what the world record progressions will look like shortly:

    [65-69]50m Backstroke Women Short Course
    OHLSSON Margit SWE 36.58 21-03-2010
    UUSTAL Diann USA 35.58 19-03-2011

    [65-69]100m Backstroke Women Short Course
    OHLSSON Margit SWE 01:20.34 21-03-2010
    UUSTAL Diann USA 01:19.08 19-03-2011
    OHLSSON Margit SWE 01:18.81 30-09-2011
    UUSTAL Diann USA 01:17.95 11-12-2011

    [65-69]200m Backstroke Women Short Course
    OHLSSON Margit SWE 02:56.81 20-03-2010
    UUSTAL Diann USA 02:56.03 19-03-2011
    OHLSSON Margit SWE 02:55.02 01-10-2011
    UUSTAL Diann USA 02:53.36 04-12-2011

It ain't over! Margit's splits in the 200, on her way to her then WR 2:55.02, were 39.37 + 42.56 + 46.64 + 46.45 = 2:55.02. Clearly, Margit could split her race better. Who know how much faster she can go?! It ain't over!

    Re: Broken Records

You know you are OCD about swimming when ...

You're a step ahead of Swimming World, fer gosh sakes. Swimming World wrote:

Diann Uustal was the star of the meet, setting three Masters world records in the 65-69 age group ...

    100 IM: 1:20.86 (old record: 1:22.46)
    50 free: 32.06 (old record: 32.25)
    100 back: 1:17.95 (old record: 1:19.08)
Star of the meet, true enough, but only 2 WRs, not three. If Swimming World had checked the FINA web site, they would have noticed a new WR in the 50 free, as of Oct. 23 of this year:

    STEVENSON Lynette AUS 31.82 23-10-2011

And also the 1:18.81 WR in the 100 back, by Margit Ohlsson, as noted upthread.

It was pointed out on another thread that the Maine Masters Relay did not achieve any kind of record because they were categorized in the wrong age group. There ages add to 160-199, which is three age groups down from the 280-319 age group. With that said they would still be short of the 280-319 800 Free World Record of 10:28.15 that was recently swam at the Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic in Orlando, Florida.

It's worth noting that weeks earlier at the 76 Olympic trials, Hackett set a WR in the 800 free 8:01.54. Amazingly, this record was set during his 1500 swim!
