Just Announced...
the First Ever...
73 meter Butterfly Clinic
Meet Champion Masters Swimmer, Glenn Gruber (60 - 64)
Glenn has recently developed several RADICAL new techniques for the 100 meter butterfly. Here are Glenn's recent swimming accomplishments:
*Flyer on the 2012 USMS National Champion 200y medley relay
*2012 SPMS Regional Champion 50m butterfly
*High Point Award Winner - 2012 SPMS Regional Championships
*Currently ranked 3rd nationally 50m butterfly (30.62)
If you are a butterfly specialist or want to be a butterfly specialist you can't afford to miss this UNIQUE and RADICAL approach to the rigors of sprint butterfly...
LEARN the importance of splitting the race..
LEARN important tips on stroke count...
LEARN new ways to streamline... and more!!!
Learn to split the race like no one has ever done before...You'll be saying "That's unbelievable" when you see how Glenn takes out the first 50 in a blazing 31.0 and brings it back in a truly awesome 46.0
You will be amazed as you watch Glenn show you how to MORE THAN DOUBLE your stroke count from 6 on the first length to a WHOPPING 18 on the last 25 (How does he do that??)
But Wait...There's more...
Learn the technique Glenn calls "VERTICAL STREAMLINING". This is an amazing new technique where Glenn starts swimming in the traditional horizontal streamline position and then magically transitions into the NEW vertical streamline position EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT...
Finally, watch Glenn as he demonstrates how to carry a WORLD RECORD size grand piano on his back for a full 27 meters.
Plans are being made for a clinic near you.

Oh my gosh, you had me howling. Even my non-swimming husband got a kick out of this Glenn. Nicely done!
I have not belly-laughed ALONE like I just did in years! This is a masterpiece, Glenn. omg - I'm circulating this one amongst my swimmer friends. Way funny!!! Thanks for sharing!
that is funny, sign me up
OUCH
you need easy speed, that had to be awful yet quite entertaining
I think I have read this ten times now and I'm still laughing to the point of tears.

Is there a video of this excellent vertical streamlining?
Ande,
I can assure you it was only entertaining for the people watching... For me, it was the "entertainment from hell".
As far as easy speed is concerned, that's what I told myself on the blocks before my leg and that's what I thought I was doing for 73 meters! I found out otherwise! Mainly I think I need more practice swimming this race.
ekw,
I must admit, even I laugh pretty hard each time I read it!
Leslie,
Yes, there is video taken by the daughter of our breastroker, Hubie Kerns. He hasn't gotten it to me yet, but when he does I'll post it... (I think).
Does the part of the clinic covering the 'vertical streamlining' discuss how this wonderful new technique can help the freestyler on the medley relay get an even faster start?![]()
p.s. It's great how you've handled this!!
Gee thanks Michael, I hadn't included that in the script...
For those of you who don't know, Michael Blatt is my teammate with Ventura County Masters and our wonderful, dependable anchor on the medley, 200, 400 and 800 free relays. He missed high point at the SCM meet this weekend by 1 point (won it last year though) in the 55-59 age group.
Thanks on the p.s. Thought I might as well embrace this!
I really have heard from many people who have gone through the same thing in some way, shape, form or another.
Michael has heard this story, but my wife, who is not a swimmer but very supportive, decided to try competition with me about 30 years ago. We entered a local meet, a pentathlon, that consisted of 4 x's 50 stroke and a 100 IM.
In her first event, the 50 fly, she started down the pool and got about half way when she pretty much began to stay in the same spot while trying to do the butterfly. After a few moments she said "Oh s**t, I quit" whereby she swam to the side, got out and ended her competitive swimming career.
As she was watching me this past weekend on the medley relay, she really did know what I was going through. We can both laugh at it now. She of course, a little more than I.![]()
Glenn, if someone videoed your race, you should consider putting it up on a Pay Per View basis. You could make a fortune, human nature being what it is! who among us doesn't enjoy a good spectacle?
Jim,
That's not a little schadenfreude is it????

Inquiring minds want to know - will there be a LCM version of this clinic?
"Librarians are hiding something." - Stephen Colbert
Hmm.. Let's wait and see how the LCM season goes...you never know.
Although I must say, I really doubt that my teammates will ask me to do the 100 fly on the medley relay again!
The guy in this video (Lane 3) may have taken your class last year...must wait for it...

Yes, I remember him as a star pupil! He grasped the concept of going out waaaay too fast right away.

To emulate this, it's critical to study the swimmer and his race data
The swimmer is Chip Castagnos, 44 with BLU Rowdy Gaines Blu Frog
He did much better in his 50 & 100 Fly.

If you study his 200 fly you'll notice
his splits were
26.49 56.29 (29.80) 1:27.87 (31.58) 2:08.52 (40.65)
and his strokes per length were
07, 09,
09, 10,
10, 11,
12, 15
(however on his last length, from beneath the flags to the wall, he took an impressive 6 strokes before finally touching.)
Also it seems his breathing pattern changed from one up one down to one with each stroke.)
His knee bend on his last few lengths seem to be much more pronounced.
