Masters team - does your team/club go all year?

I was asking others when their clubs stops pool swims for the year and many said the end of May.
What does the team/club you swim with do?

I'll play , and I'm also in Illinois...
We swim in our indoor pool all year except for a week sometime in August when they drain and clean it. In June and July we change one of our evening indoor practices to an outdoor swim in the lazy river at a local water park, going with and against the current. It is during lifeguard drills after the park closes so we are usually the only ones in the river, unless the guards are training in there that day, and then they are just some more obstacles to swim around.

That sounds like fun. I think a change from endless yards is a good thing.

In Pittsburgh, it depends on the team. Those that practice in HS pools are done in June when the school lets out. There are outdoor pool options at that point that many (including myself) take part in. Team Pitt (at the University) is the only group that goes all year with a small break in August for pool draining/cleaning.

As a H S teacher I can understand the summer closed pool .Outdoor sounds so nice when the rain & cold stop here in Chicagoland.

Our team, Houston Cougar Masters, swims year round except for a two week break in mid-late August. All of our workouts are outdoors. Just this week we moved from the 25 meter heated pool to the 50 meter unheated pool. Yes, it is now long course season until October or November.

Libertyville Masters swims year round alternating between to local HS pools. We take two weeks off in mid-August, but otherwise swim 4 times a week except for the major holidays. The pool we use for both our long (Sunday 90 minute/4k) night and our Wednesday stroke night is currently set up for SC meters since the age group kids are swimming that right now.

We have one month off (September) since we are configuring one of our locations for winter training. We "DOME" our outdoor facility, thus we are off while the installation of heating and electrical components are being put back into operation. This give people time to take a mental break and get out and enjoy the early fall weather.

How does the dome hold up in the heavy winter snow?

Actually quite well. The DOME panels are supported by an internal steel structure. WE have internal and external panels which does help with insulation. We do heat the facility (deck) by running duct work along the perimeter as well as the water itself it also heated to keep temperature at 79 water and 80~82 on the deck.

that is a good setup. It must be cheaper to build than a concrete & block building.

My masters team in year round. Just like 2 weeks off per season change, or for holiday breaks.

We go year round at our indoor pool. Participation drops off in the summer, however, as many are using the good weather to bike or run or swim at an outdoor facility.

Those of you that go year round ---- what are your team dues for the coach to do this all those months?
If it's not too personal, don't give me a $$$ figure.

Cool Re: Masters team - does your team/club go all year?

Naperville Waves Swim Club runs a Summer Season (OW focus) and a Winter Season (short course and stroke focus) with a 1 month break in October. It has worked out great for 17 years and allows me to offer strength & stroke clinics along with a team Training Trip during the month off.
Swimmers register by the season all up front and it runs approximately $65 / M for a nonmember of our health club or $45/M for members. ALL SWIMMERS ARE USMS REGISTEED UNDER NWSC.

As far as coaches pay...... all coaches are paid a hourly rate that is quite competitive with local age group clubs and I also get paid administrative time to run the program.

All year but 2 week break in August before season starts. Well kid season. There is also a break in December but I swim elsewhere. Any time there is a break, I swim elsewhere.
