Octogenarians become oldest team to cross Catalina Channel

    80-somethings swim to a record
Team of octogenarians oldest to relay across the Catalina Channel

Most of these guys are USMS members.
One (I don't know which one) was the alternate; it was a six-man team that set the record.

    Bill Spore, 80
    Dave Radcliff, 81
    Graham Johnston, 84
    Bob Beach, 85
    Bob Best, 82
    Don Baker, 84
    Norm Stupfel, 82
    Bill Spore, 80

    Here's the story:

Here are bios of the swimmers:

Great job guys. I don't want to bother to look it up, but there was a snarky post on this forum about how old folks take too long in distance events. Looks like these guys didn't take too long.

so proud to be a teammate of Dave's! He is an inspiration for his incredible endurance & positive attitude. He swam in a long course meet this weekend after having gotten back late Friday from the Catalina swim- I guess he figures he can sleep later!

Not only that, he broke a world record in the 400 free today! I guess he's recovered from Catalina!

They all still look amazingly fit for their age.
