Swim briefs for swimming laps after not swimming for a while

Hello all. I'm 27 and used to be on swim team all through elementary, middle, and high schools. I've always been in fairly good athletic shape and worked out regularly. However, lately I haven't been in the gym lately and haven't been going as much as I should. I'm not as athletic as I once was, but I am still in decent shape, and it's not like I'm extremely fat.

However, I have recently started getting back in to the pool and started swimming laps at both my local Lifetime Fitness and my local city aquatic complex. I am just wondering if it would still be appropriate to wear a Speedo while swimming laps. I wore swim briefs all the time for swim team and diving. But lately since I haven't been swimming in a while. would it still be good to wear them? I realize I will probably get odd looks from some people, but regular swimming trunks give me too much drag in the pool and jammers don't always work as good for me. It's not like I wear any outrageous colors. Just black or dark blue Speedos. I just want to get back into swimming again, and I want to be comfortable while doing it too. Thoughts and advice?

You know, as long as parts and cracks are covered, I don't think anyone really looks at what people are wearing. We have a mix on my team of guys who wear jammers and the speedo-type briefs. Wear what makes you comfortable and gets you to the pool working out.

Thank you so much for the response. I just am trying to get back into the shape I was when I was on the swim team. I'm also swimming to mentally clear my mind too.

If you feel briefs are too brief, there are also more square-cut style training suits that lots of swimmers wear. The polyester mesh ones are great and very durable.

Between briefs and jammers you can find square leg suits which are perhaps a bit more modest than lowriders but fitted so they do not produce drag. https://www.swimoutlet.com/mens-square-leg-suits-c9263/

As long as it covers the law, wear what is comfortable. Swim practices are uncomfortable enough already without wearing an uncomfortable suit.

Agree with everyone else, where what you're comfortable in, what brings you to the pool, and of course legal. When I'm in good shape I usually wear a speedo/brief with a drag suit on top. Sometimes for sprints I'll take off the drag suit and it makes me feel faster.

Also noticed that you're in Mesa. I do hope you take advantage of the Mesa Aquatics Masters team. They have different times/locations, so really no excuse not to. And if you haven't swum for a while, that's no excuse either, as others are also in that boat. At least with a team you won't be the odd one out in a speedo.

I like the Speedo Endurance suit, square leg cut. (https://www.swimoutlet.com/p/speedo-...88/?color=9343) It holds shape well and is very long lasting. I have a few jammers and briefs that I will wear from time to time. Lot's of great choices to help you get back into the pool. As others have mentioned, don't worry about what lanemates might be wearing...on the whole Masters folks are just happy to be getting some laps in. Swimming has helped me get back to a healthier weight and provides a great stress relief from everyday life.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I bought a Speedo jammer from the local Dick's Sporting Goods here. However, I think I prefer the Speedo briefs better. They are more comfortable and I feel I swim a little better in them too.

Comfort is the main thing, really. Just remember, you've got a brief walk to the pool then once you're in, most folks can only see what part of you is above water. And the pool is full of people who are keeping their heads in the water, laser focused on that black line underneath them, and only seeing the rest of the scene around them in tiny little glimpses when they breathe.
