Re: Paris to nice bike race 2017

Stage # 1 92.2 miles in the cold and wet of day one. Heavy cross winds break apart the pack to just 25 or so the last 19 miles. Not a big name winner at the finish has Arnaud Demare of FDJ winning with Julian Alaphilippi of Quick step 2nd.
Many big name riders are far behind in this poor weather day. After a small crash, romain Bardet hung on to the team car too many times in an effort to rejoin the 2nd pack and was , after review, dq'ed for this illegal move!

Re: Paris to nice bike race 2017

Stage #3 well it's finally not windy & cold. Niice sun and dry roads present themselves for this 118 miles stage from Chablis[yes like the wine] to Chalon-sur-Saone. Three go out in a breakaway with Ben King- an American -from the get go. Many miles later it is down to 2 - Latour and Combed that at one time head an 8 min. lead. At 19 miles it is down to 1:36. After a turn crash, the peloton slows to check on team leaders then picks up the pace as lead out trains try to get their sprinters to the front. The 2 in the B A get caught with one K to go.
At the line an Irishman - Sam Bennett from Bora-Hansgrohe bests the big name guys!!. The overall is still Deware.
A sprint stage is due for stage #4

Re: Paris to nice bike race 2017

Stage # 5 This should be the last stage for the sprinters. as usual a 4 man breakaway goes out early but is slowly tracked down with 12K to go. Lots of shifting and jockeying for position as the team readout trains try to keep their sprinters at the front. a last 50 Meter surge lets Andre Greipel win this stage with his strength. 2nd ws Demare 3rd Groenwegen 4th Michael Matthews.
Alaphillipp is stil in the yellow jersey of the leader or top general classification [ GC ] as all in he peloton are given the same time if no breaks or space is between them.

#7 They start by the sea and will climb yp to 5,300 feet into the snow covered mts. # peaks with the finish climb of 10 miles in 7 - 10 degrees of steep mt. roads. Team Sky and the altitude take a toll on the peloton as the leaders Alalpillpi & Galloping get dropped with 6 miles to go. 3 miles left only 6 left. richie Porte pops of the front to lead & win the stage. 2nd was contador 3rd was Martin. the top GC is now Sergio Heno of team Sky. 2nd GC is Dan Martin by 30 sec. & 3rd overall is Contador. by 31 sec.

Re: Paris to nice bike race 2017

#8 the final stage with 5 steep climbs.. At the onset, 22 go out in a B A .With 55K to go and 2 climbs, Contador does the not recommended "hammer time" and starts to drop others around him on his charge to the front!!.He gaps the G C leader Sergio Henao and continues on his way. The last climb is 5 miles to the top with a 3 mile drop into Nice. Contador can take the lead of he has more time ahead of Sergio than the 31 sec. between them at the start of the day. He hits 46 MPH on the down hill run & turns! He finishes 2nd on the stage & gets a 6 sec. time bonus BUT by a quirk of fate --- he does not take the overall race win by 2 sec. because Henao, of the Sky team gets the same time as the sprinters he finishes with wins the total rate by --- 2 seconds!
