Stage #1 a 8.7 mile time trial in Dusseldorf,Germany starts this year,s tour. Rain - really- on the 1st day makes a mess of the high speed usually found in TT races. Some crashes on the turns from wet painted lines in the road with the most significant being Valverde crashing and being taken to hospital and is now listed as out of the tour. The best time is registered by Geraint Thomas of 16:04 with Tony Martin 4th + 8 seconds and Chris Froome 6th +15 seconds back. A real eye opener is Fromme now has 35 seconds on Richie Porte Team Sky has riders in 1st-3rd-6th-8th of the top ten!!

It's amazing that Froome is still in the running. I think that it will come down to another strong team, especially if the rain persists. Neat to see some riding in Germany.

Yes, froome is someone to watch. Stage #2 125.6 miles to Liege . Belgium n the rain again. & go out at 200 meters from the start and only 2 are out at the end. Taylor Phinney is trying to make all the way. A big crash with .15 miles to go takes down about 30 with Froome among them. All get back up & fight their way back to the pack. Froome needs a bike change & gets it to rejoin the peloton. The 2 breakaway guys are caught .8 miles from the finish. The sprinters team form the leadoffs and Marcel Kittle from team quick step wins the sprint finish. This is his 10th T D F stage win. Thomas still holds the yellow jersey with Froome in 6th 12+ back.

Stage #3 Well it's a dry and sunny race day.132 miles thru Luxenburg into France. All breakaways are pulled back in by the last 6 miles. 2 very tight hairpin turns close to the end must be concentrated on. Sagan is in front when his right foot pops out of the cleat & he calmly clicks back into continue his sprint to win at the line! Froome is -2 sec. back in 9th on the day. He is 12 back from Thomas , who surprisingly still able to hold onto the yellow!

WOW !! A quick report. Peter Sagan has been tossed out of the Tour! The Jury of race officials did this based on his elbow making contact with Cavendish and made him crash, was the stated reason. Most of the tv announcers totally disagree with the unheralded decision. Many other sprinter incidences like this happen almost in every sprint charge.
What will this do to the rest of the tour sprint finishes?

    Re: 2017 Tour de France

Stage #4 A strange stage reporting Sagans origress without knowing that at the end of the day he would be DQed. One lone man breaks at the start & not joined by anyone gets caught with 10 miles to go after leading for 188 miles solo. Three sharp turns in the last 3 K might cause problems. a big crash with .8 mile to go puts Froome and many others on the pavement but, they will get the same time as the leader because of the 3K rule of crashes.
arnaud Demare ,a frenchman and the 1st to win a sprint stage since 2006 is his 1st T D F win as well.wins the sprint stage after another crash involving sagan, cavendish and 3 other at he 200 meter to go point. the aftermath will cause the DQ of Sagan

Many do not agree with Sagan dq. Feel bad for cavendish as he is out due to the crash....he's always exciting to watch in the sprints.

Stage #5 A nice clear, if warm, day to race. Some sprint points in the middle. The end is the focal point of the day. The last 4 miles are up hill, with 8% most of the way and the last 300 meters 20% !!
1st to win is Fabio Aru -astane 2nd Dan Martin - Quick Step and 3rd Chris Froome - team Sky who now takes over the yellow jersey of leader of the tour.

Stage #6 134.2 miles in 99 degree heat. Today is the 2nd longest of the tour. 3 are out front the entire day till 2 miles from the finish. The lead out trains are setting up from 4 K out. Marcel Kittel wins it and froome is still yellow. Froome now has 46 days in yellow the 5th highest in T D F history. He will wear in moire and rise even further .

    Re: 2017 Tour de France

#7 It was televised much later than other stages for me here. 132.7 hot with strong winds or cross winds expected near the end today. A good 5K straight for the sprinters finish is in the works . A photo finish to determine who wins it is up to the judges and it goes to Marcel Kittel over Boassonhagen. Kittel now takes the green jersey with this win. Froome still in Yellow

    Re: 2017 Tour de France

#9 112.8 7 climbs with 3 in the beyond classification range!! Geraint Thomas crashes & is out. The steepest 10 - 15 % climbs are in play for those that want to lead. The top 6 attack each other & leave everybody behind. Froome answers with a leading attack of his own. On the very steep downhill roads Porte goes off road to the left crashes and slides back accross to hit Martin and then into the rocky mountain side. He is taken away in the ambulance & is out. The top 6 fight to there finish line with Rigoberto Uran winning. 2nd is Warren Barguil & 3rd Froome. Froome adds 4 seconds to his lead.

#10 Mostly flat till the sprinters finish. 2 sharp turns in the last 1K might be a problem. Marcel Kittel powers away from the other world class sprinters to win his 4th stage of this year's T D F.
This makes for him a record 13 stage wins for a German , the most ever.
Froome still leads by 18 seconds.

I am kinda surprized that Fabio Aru is still hanging strong with Froome. Some more big climbs coming soon to the Tour!

    Re: 2017 Tour de France

Froome is just biding his time till the pyrenees mountains I think.
Contador is not having a good tour with 3 crashes so far with the mts. soon to be hard on all.

    Re: 2017 Tour de France

#11 a\A long flat "transition" stage as they call it. Bonder stays out front for over 200K but his 4 time TT championships in Poland get him to within 400 meters from the finish when the sprinters flash past. Kittel again shows his dominance of the final push with his 5th stage win of this year's TDf. Can he break or tie the record of 8 wins? Tomorrow into the Pyrenees mountains with many difficult climbs and a mt. top finish. Is this where Froome jumps ahead?
