Should I do the Shoulder Surgery [M47]?

Any masters out there receive shoulder surgery and recovered to a point where they drop time?

I received a rather traumatic dislocation of my left shoulder as a teen. Ever since I've suffered from instability of my left shoulder. I baby it a bit, but day to day, it doesn't really bother me. At my first open-water it dislocated when I accepted a hand to pull me on deck (5k, I was exhausted). At my last meet it dislocated when I "finished hard" on the 100 IM. It's a nuisance, but doesn't really give me the level of inconvenience that makes me want to operate.

I'm trying to up my game in the pool to make NQT in the next few years. I need to either drop 5 seconds in the 100 IM, or 83 second in the 1650. Both are a stretch goal, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Given the goals, should I just continue to workout till I plateau, or go through surgery, recovery and retraining?

Swimming is one of the main things keeping me sane right now, and it would be a pretty big hit for me to hang up the towel.

Re: Should I do the Shoulder Surgery [M47]?

I had one surgery. Iím not where I was with swimming prior to surgery because it was 19 days ago. My other shoulder is the one that used to dislocate, very often, but I managed to knock on wood for over 16 years now. I do plan to consult my ortho with my other shoulder soon after right shoulder is rehabíd or at least before my PT deductible resets.
