In the Fall of 2017, I was experiencing fatigue and severe anemia (cold in an 80 degree pool). I thought I was overtraining but it continued to get worse. In April 2018, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease due to severe oxylate damage. I had lost 80% of my kidney function. We donít know why, but I was eating a lot of high oxylate foods (nuts, nut butters, spinach, lentils). I cut those out, and within two weeks my oxylate level had gone from three times normal to normal. Yet my kidney function remains at 20-24% (GFR). I have continued to swim at a high level managing 25Kyds/week with the University of Texas Masters. My current Kidney Doc is at a loss, and just desires to keep an eye on my monthly labs. I want to find out if I can do more to improve my GFR. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this front? Thank you in advance.
