    masters swimming workouts

I had a question for Master swim coaches. I am a 38 year old female master swimmer and have been back to swimming for 2 years. I swim 5 times a week with a master swim team. Many of the masters swimmers swim 3 to 4 times per week and run on the fifth day. Is it better for master swimmers to rest and only swim 3 times a week or is swimming 5 times a week better?

I think the answer to your question is that it really depends on the person. At different times in my swimming career, I have swum 7-8 times a week in addition to lifting weights. I have swum three times a week and cross-trained the days that I don't swim. In general, my swim times remain the same. It really depends on what works best for you.

I agree completely. Find what is best for you. I used to swim 7-8 times per week plus weights. Now I swim three times and do alternative training a couple of days - for me it is both good for the body but also good for the mind with the variation. But.. we are all different.
