hey J,
I've already done those times
I want to see if I can beat them and by how much
I'm going to test the Blue Seventy PointZero3+ swim skin in practice
before I use it in a meet
Ande, John is working on a draft of a rule change to USMS to ban for life any swimmer who wears a triathlete suit in a pool.
And I agree with John...cut the nails....or get them done and start cross dressing.
I crack myself up. It is jealousy. It is Boredom. I Did not accomplish enough when I was young, and I hate anybody faster/younger than me.
Of course I realize this is a joke...but he better be willing to give up his Fastskin, since Speedo has a line of FS-II triathlon suits.
The line between wetsuits and technical suits is blurring. A friend of mine competed in the Duathlon World Championships held here in Richmond last fall. All the USA competitors had to wear a 2-piece USA Fastskin uniform...and there is no swimming at all in a duathlon!

Hey Chris,
longer nails make a difference, try it sometime
Hi John,
There you go again, dissing innovation,
I'll cut my nails on Sunday after the 50 fly.
Sam,
No heels, but longer toe nails could improve my SDK speed
Hey J,
I'm gonna test out the suit, Eddie and Kris said Roque brought some suits for UT swimmers to try, they did and didn't feel it was as fast as an LZR
Again those LCM times are my recent bests, my goal times are a bit faster
I just want to see how much I can improve on them.
Hey Fort,
Beth and my son give me a hard time
I hope so I think flow cast is going to be there
Not sure if I'll swim finals because I'll be at a wedding at 4:00
Hey Paul,
Not so sure about the suit, my buddy pete nunan raved about it, some UT swimmers tried it, Eddie and Kris told me they feel it's not as fast as the LZR and might need a redesign. open water swimmers go much slower than sprinters. the fabric intrigues me, I heard a coach say one of the olympican swimmers tried it and said it was much easier to get on than an LZR and it seem to stay in place when he swam in it. Since it's easy to get on, it's probably easy to take off making much better for Triathlon transitions.
Not into cross dressing
I'm just trying to catch up with the 2 smiths now that I'm 45
I'll cut the nails this Sunday
Hi Shaman,
I take
8 - 10 when I'm doing DPS
11 - 13 when I'm swimming easy and not paying attention and
13 - 15 when I'm going fast but I wasn't counting yesterday
I'll bring a camera to practice sometime.

Hey J,
thanks, I appreciate all the folks who follow my blog, the active commenters like you and the lurkers, didn't know they changed the sig specs
Hey fort,
I'm definitely curious about the blue seventy nero comp
hope to try it and wriite about it soon, not sure how they run
got a nice email from Dennis Baker on his
he wrote:
"The suit is the best one out there."
"The top three in my mind and a lot of elite swimmers I have talked to are these: Blue- number one 5% less drag or what ever you want to call it. Tyr- number two 4%. Lzr- number three 2%. You can get bubbles but unlike regular fastskins, which bubbles are bad, bubbles in the Blue are no problem, might even help. Size is a must, I wore a 26 and it was perfect. I am 5-11 and 170. Talk to Roque he can help."
"I think each time you wear the suit you learn better how to swim in it. My feet and shins where coming way out of the water in the 100 fly at Irvine, had to adjust."
Last edited by ande; June 4th, 2008 at 11:00 AM.
When you try the Blue Seventy suits, I'd be curious to know whether you think they rip as easily as the FS Pro. If they're "rubberized," maybe not? I love the Pro, but I've had ripping issues with all but one suit. Are you going to try the new suits this weekend? Good luck!!
I must say Ande that I am surprised that you worry more about your fingernails than your weight. You mentioned some time ago that Eddie commented on your weight. Surely dropping 5-10 lbs and the improved power to weight ratio would do more for you than nails a few millimeters longer.
From the Rolling Stones "Mother's Little Helper" - "What a drag it is getting old....."
Thursday June 5th, 2008
Hi Fort,
I hope it arrives today and I hope i get to wear it in my 50 free
I'll give y'all a full report.
Hey Hoff,
I'm concerned about my weight and hope to drop 5 - 15 lbs
there's just not much I can do about it right now
since my meet begins tomorrow.
I definitely plan to do something about it in my next training phase.
As far as I know there's no study to determine what difference nail length can make in swimming performance, but I believe it could be way more significant than a few 100th's.
Blue Seventy PointZero3+ swim skin
Arrived today
May send it back, my understanding is the point zero is made for triathletes to put on over their triathlon gear when the water is too warm to wear a wet suit.
it's also pretty easy to take off in the swim to bike transition
the blue seventy nero comp is for pool racing
Arrived today
I read this quote yesterday in an under armour ad and loved it
"We train not to maintain, but to get better everyday
to achieve, excel, and raise the bar fo those who follow
Be better than before, Be better than the rest
Be the New prototype."
I'm also thinking when my new training phase begins on monday where I resume normal training and pretty much do the assigned workouts, I may need to do something extra to lose weight.
I'm thinking about walking a couple extra miles a day and getting a
Garmin Forerunner 405 Wireless GPS with Heart Rate Monitor to track my walking
It has a GPS in it, it counts miles ,minutes, and calories burned then sends the info to your PC before you even get home.

Ande -
As a former Golden Bear, I'm hoping Roque can "do me a solid" on a BlueSeventy. What size Nero Comp did you order? I'm 6'2", 190, 43in chest...
This bush league psyche-out stuff. Laughable, man - ha ha!
Update,
both Blue Seventy Suits arrived today.
a size 32 Nero Comp & a Point Zero 3+
with the Nero Comp most of the suit is rubberized fabric.
It has fabric only portions in 2 sections
1) small triangular patch by each ankle and
2) around the arm holes that cross over and make the X on the back.
I tried on the nero comp
First time I didn't get the crotch up high enough, I was getting sweaty, and the suit seemed difficult to move up and adjust, so I took it off, took a break let the suit and me dry a little before trying again.
Next time I concluded it's really important to start right
so I pulled the bottom part of legs further up my calf then
pulled it up (one leg at a time) pinching the leg fabric between between my thumb pad and knuckle.
No fingernails.
One thing I found particulaly helpful was
pull it up the first time to my thigh then roll it down half way, doubling over the fabric
then adjusting the suit on my calf with the fabric doubled over, it seemed easier to pull up that way
getting the bottom portion of the legs up high enough on my calf to make the crotch hit correctly.
Success!
Got the calves legs and waist in so the rest was easy.
Got the straps over my shoulders then my wife zipped me in and
I wore it for a few minutes.
I noticed is I started sweating in the suit so it's probably a good idea to not put on the suit until 15 to 20 minutes before your race.
I believe this suit is probably very difficult to put on when it or you are wet.
So keep or get it and you dry before putting it on.
If you're swimming multiple events it's probably a good idea to keep it on and stay cool.
I plan to wear the Nero Comp in tomorrows 50 free prelims and look forward to reporting how the swim goes.
In March 2008 I swam the 50 meter free wearing a hineck FS II in
25.31
That's the time to beat.
results will be at:
http://www.utexas.edu/longhornaquati...ults/index.htm
timeline estimates Prelims event 10 Mens 50 Freestyle to begin at 11:52 AM Texas Time (CST)
Stay tuned,
Ande
in 1991 I went
20.52 in the 50 fr &
23.65 in the 50 LCM free
this year at SCY nats I went 21.43 which is 0.9 from 20.5
so 0.9 off 23.65 is 24.55
so if I swim like I did at Nats I hope to be in the range of 24.5 - 24.7

I write songs, you can hear 'em at:

Does the rubber give you more "give" than the Pro? Is it a ripping hazard like the Pro? Do you get the sense the suit would dry off quickly like the Pro?
Thanks for the update. Are you going to wear it for any other events possibly?

Very nice swim. I look forward to your comments on what effect, if any, the suit had on your time.
At this point in the development of our society, there is virtually no writing which has not been plagiarized at least in part from another. I read that somewhere.

Great job ande!!! Good luck tonight. Very interesting about the suit. Is there any substantial difference that you can see between the nero comp and the point zero3+?
The suit may be great, but if they don't fix that website, they won't sell any. They don't list the price of the nero comp suit, show the long leg model, say that it's sold out, or allow you to pre-order. Nor do they return emails. Not a great way to do business.
Yikes, dude. I read your swimsuit-putting-on epic. I think I'll be just wearing jammers in Portland, so I don't miss my events. Do you think there's a hidden cost to wearing these suits in how exhausting they are to put on?
Also, nice 50 free!
