Longhorn masters allows drop in swimmers, guest swimmers.
swimmers need to show up for practice with a current usms card
sign some papers that the monitor will provide and pay 5 bucks a practice
you can find Longhorn Masters info at:

Last night I attended the Texas Grammy Honors event
My table was right next to the table where the guys in ZZ Top were sitting
Billy Bob Thornton introduced them, had a great time but I got home close to midnight, I skipped out on the after party
6:30 am - 8:00 am
bridgette coached
scy
main pool
swam with tyler, max, & ned
arrived around 7:00 am
weighed 204
when I arrived the set my lane was doing was:
4 rounds of:
8 x 50 done 3 strong on a tough interval, 1 easy recovery
round 1 fly, round 2 back, round 3 breast, round 4 free
200 neg split
BUT since I'm resting, I got in and swam easy
stayed out of my lane mates way
on the 50's I opted to swim several easy I skipped a few then did
one very fast in each round
50 back from a push 27
50 fly from a dive 24.3
50 fly from a dive 24.5
then I swam easy hung on the wall and talked with Eddie Reese
then got out
Tomorrow I lift weights, rest more, and do a little fast swimming
Wednesday November 15, 2006
my left calf hurts a bit, hope it goes away
I planned to lift weights this morning but the gym was closed when I drove by so I headed up to austin and arrived for practice early, since I had some time, I went into the shower and shaved my arms.
Last night I got a call from the Texas Songwriter Cruise, I entered 3 songs in their song contest. They let me know that 2 of my songs were selected as finalists in their categories. If they wind up winning their category then they will be eligible for the grand prize and if one is selected as the grandprize winner, I'll get to go on the texas songwriter cruise which begins on Sunday December 3rd the same day as the last day of the mississippi meet I'm considering going to. So I possiblly have a schedule conflict.

Southern Masters SCM Championships - Cleveland, MS on
12/1/2006 - 12/3/2006 SCM;
http://home.earthlink.net/~dixiezone/Meets/0612sms.pdf
so here's what else is going on:
I feel like I've trained well this fall and I'm curious how I'll swim with a few more weeks of rest,
my wife is giving me a hard time about being gone so often this year, ie worlds, zones, and work stuff and
my teammates are counting on me to swim on a relay on Friday at the mississippi meet
so I'll wait and see.
6:30 - 8:00 work out
whitney coached
diving well SCY
swam with larry, doug and chris
weighed 203
300 done 200 sw 100 fl drill
300 done 200 sw 100 bk drill
300 done 200 kick 100 br drill
my lane was assigned
500 free at 70%
but I did
150 easy, rest as my lane mates complete the 50 I skipped
100 easy, rest as my lane mates complete the 50 I skipped
100 easy, rest as my lane mates complete the 50 I skipped
the next assigned set was
5 x 100 on 1:20 holding a pace that adds up to be 20 seconds faster than the 500 they just did
but I did
5 x 50 on 1:20
1) easy speed, 29
2) moderate, 34
3) easy speed, 28
4) moderate, 34
5) fast went 23 high from a push
400 easy
then I got out and changed into my fast skin jammer
waited around 20 minutes then did a
50 fly fast from a dive with a roll start from the side of the pool
went 24.1
100 easy
btw there's here's a list of different ways to start in practice:
1) push with a self start (start watch when feet leave)
2) push on the coaches go
3) dive from the side of pool with a self start (start watch when feet leave)
4) dive from the side of pool on the coaches go
5) dive from blocks with a self start (start watch when feet leave)
6) dive from blocks on the coaches go
#2 is the slowest way
#6 is how you do it in a meet
#5 is the fastest way

My plan to skip dinner didn't work out. I hope to get under 200 in the coming weeks.
I did not sleep well last night, I went to bed around 10 woke up around 12:30 then didn't fall back asleep for the rest of the night.
I plan to leave work early, catch an afternoon nap since I'm going to aerosmith tonight in San Antonio then tomorrow is the my meet.
I entered the:
100 fly,
50 bk,
50 fr
200 IM, &
50 fly
it's a very small meet,
right now I'm considering several options:
1) swim all the events and do the best I can in each one
2) focus on the 50 fly, go for a 50 fly time on the way out on my 100 fly
3) focus on the 50 back
4) focus on the 200 IM and attempt to beat the 2:15.0 time I did in 2004
5) focus on the 100 fly and attempt to split it very well
What do you think?

I know you listed all the different ways to start but which one is a roll start?
A friend of mine went to Aerosmith/Motley Crue last month and said it was a cussing festival like no other. Tommy Lee was yelling obscenities the whole night at the crowd and they seemed to love it. Apparently he was also passing out his bottles of Jaegermeister in between songs. It seems that he was chugging away while he was playing and giving the half consumed bottle to the crowd. Strange. Hopefully your concert is just Aerosmith...unless you enjoy profanity I guess.
Good luck at your meet. Perhaps the music tonight will get you fired up.
Ande will have no such luck because he will see Motley Crew tonight because they are on the bill with Arrosmith. You can't be to surprised at Motley Crew because that is what they always do and they are known for there wildness both on and off the stage. I never saw these guys but I did see the story on "Behind the Music" and Jim Forbes ripped these guys apart on the show. Ande will have to give us a review of this concert like he did last year when he saw Areosmith with Lenny Kravitz. Hopefully some of this music will not slow him down for the meet.

Swam in a meet today
details below
hi Warren you asked "which one is a roll start?"
my repsonse: a roll start is where you start yourself, the time starts the watch when your feet leave the wall
hi scyfreestyler,
you wrote "A friend of mine went to Aerosmith/Motley Crue last month and said it was a cussing festival like no other. Tommy Lee was yelling obscenities the whole night at the crowd and they seemed to love it. Apparently he was also passing out his bottles of Jaegermeister in between songs. my response:
there was a lot of cussing, fire and loud noises with Motley Crue
it reminded me of the 80's and MTV
tommy passed out one bottle of jagermiester
his instructions were "take a swig and pass it back"
eww
a couple months ago we bought 8 tickets to sit in the lawn section
http://static2.livenation.com/akamai...80_21613_1.jpg
since aerosmith is my wife's favorite band, yesterday I bought 2 tickets in
Orchestra section 3 to surprise her. Our seats were right next to the cat walk stage that separated orchestra section 1 & 3 and came right out to orchestra section 2
Also at the event some vendors were giving Lawn ticket holders the
chance to upgrade their tickets to section 305 for ten bucks
so we upgraded my son, his date, his friend and my daughter.
then I brought my daughter into the orchestra section,
we couldn't get to our seats, so we went over to the front stage on the far left side, then steven tyler walked over to the left side. My daughter reached out and touched his leg. She was freaking out then steven reached down and undid her pony tail, he sang for a bit with the band in his hand then gave it back to her. All the women around us were giving her high fives.
here's where you can see pics to the shows
http://www.aeroforceone.com/index.cf...OTO/pid/311645
here's where you can see pics from the San Antonio Show
http://www.aeroforceone.com/index.cf...435&pid=311645
my wife and daughter are in the 3rd pic on the top, going left to right
http://www.aeroforceone.com/af1/CMS/...y/IMG_8078.jpg
they are in the shadows beside the stage to the left of steven's right leg
there's a woman to the left of stevens knee
my wife is the shorter woman to the left of her
my wife's forearm stands out better than her face
then my daughter is the taller young lady next to my wife
so bottomline is, aerosmith rocked, it was awesome to see from so close.
but I didn't get to bed till 1:00 am, then woke up at 6 am to go to the meet.
hi Frank great to hear from you as well.
today's Meet results:
first event was 100 fly
i decided to crank a 50 fly then loaf but legally finish the rest of the race
out in 12.2
went 26.92
50 back
28.82 out in 14.2
bad start
50 free
25.00
out in 11.9
didn't get a great push off on the turn
the walls were hard to judge
skipped the 200 IM
swam the 50 fly again and went
27.00
had a glide touch
felt a little tired from the other races
I was much faster in this meet than I was last year.
my plan is to continue to rest for the next 2 weeks to prepare for mississippi
Glad the concert was enjoyable and your meet was a success! Congrats!
ande, one thing that I noticed about your races is your difference between your fisrt 25 and second 25 in the fifty fly is 2.52 seconds, for 50 free its 1.2, and 50 back its .42 seconds. Why is there a big difference in fly but not the strokes?
I can't answer for Ande's specific case but in the fly the first length ends when you touch with your hands, the time spent turning is included in the second length, that and the fact that you travel further faster from the dive in the first length than from the pushoff in the second leads to a significant difference in times. In freestyle the first length doesn't end until your feet hit the wall so the turn is included in the first length and the difference in times is less than in fly. In backstroke you turn as in free and the start is less of an advantage because you are not starting from an elevated block, so the difference is even smaller.
