Title: Masters Swim Team Coach

DEFINITION: Responsible for the overall supervision of swim team participants and the design and implementation of team practice sessions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Plans, directs and supervises all practices and prepares participants for meets; attends meetings; works cooperatively with participants as a representative of the City. Ensures that all necessary equipment is available, is setup and properly functioning. Promotes the use of the facilities and the program through oral and written public relations; through weekly news releases, flyers, etc. Recruits new team members and encourages overall wellness among participants. Provides feedback to participants regarding stroke development and general progress; ensures safety regulations and procedures are followed. Performs related work as required and assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT: Work will be conducted at an indoor or outdoor facility and will include exposure to all types of weather. The work requires bending, lifting, standing, walking and extended periods of hearing and speaking. Work requires public relations skills in handling concerns, complaints, and complements. The work also entails working closely with co-workers and cooperating in utilizing the various areas of assigned work location. Must be able to work in an environment with poor acoustics, an array of distractions, which include music and weather conditions. Work requires excellent organizational and time management skills.
EQUIPMENT USED: The ability to properly operate or use all equipment available to the coaches and adhere to prescribed policies and procedures. Work will include water safety and rescue equipment, kick boards, whistle, and pool buoys.
Knowledge: - Demonstrated working knowledge of all skills and techniques related to stroke refinement and a comprehensive knowledge of swim team organization, league rules and requirements and competition workouts.
Skills: - Demonstrated skill in operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
Abilities: - To strive for excellence without winning being the priority; work tactfully with participants; motivate swimmers; communicate effectively with the general public and co-workers; make quick decisions when needed; follow and enforce established rules and regulations; work hours that include M, W, F 5:30 a.m. 6:30 a.m.
Preferred: Knowledge and prior experience using RecTrac, Team Manager, and Meet Manager.
Training - High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience -Previous experience in competition swimming preferred.
Certifications: CPR-PR, First Aid, and AED Certifications within two (2) weeks from date of hire; minimum 18 years of age or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
