Wow. That's unbelievable. I had no idea a coach could actually erase or expunge legitimate college records. Did he do it just on the media guide or the record board too? (I'll have to re-read, I guess.) I thought colleges and USS teams went to some lengths to ensure the integrity and accuracy of their records. It makes you wonder ... I wonder what his sanctions will be after NCAAs are over? He's clearly gonna get slapped somehow to set an example. What a jerk. I guess now he's in public relations damage control mode, judging from his comments.

Great way to model leadership and sportsmanship!

Not only taking the names out of the record books, but just the harassment during the season makes me wonder.... Seems as if also a complaint to the University's HR department would be called for.

If I had a kid looking at Stanford at this point, I'd really lobby against it. He doesn't have the only game in town.

I wonder if the NCAA will say that Kenney broke a "Cardinal" rule.......

Seriously, that is just plain low - punishing McLean for picking an internship over swimming? The guy is a distance swimmer - guys like him (and I) are never going to make any money swimming professionally. I applaud him for taking the internship and sticking up to his coach. Hopefully that internship got him an awesome job somewhere and he can truly stick it to his coach.

I'm crossing Stanford off of my list of places to train for the Beijing run ... oh wait ...

In all seriousness that is very shady, and a horrible reflection on a program with a great tradition.

This is suprising, but not shocking.

In the 15 years that I've known him, I've never heard Skip Kenney's name mentioned among the admirable coaches. Even when he had Jeff Rouse and Kurt Grote and Tom Wilkens.

I don't feel bad for Skip. I feel bad for the kids who are there now. Do they leave? Do they stick it out for the education?

I can't believe that a coach of that "caliber" would actually do that to his swimmers. These kids work so hard, and because of a falling out - Coach Kenney acts like a child and omits their records? That's sad.

I think Stanford the school recruits on it's name ... I agree though Jeff, I haven't heard him amongst the list of top and respected coaches ever, I always associate Stanford with Quick ... Keep in mind, too, that Wilkens and Grote didn't train there for the Olympic run (at least in 00)

From my personal experience historical perspective, this event is not surprising, but it is truly over the top. The stories some of us could tell!

But I hope the record is corrected and the event is forgotten, for all sakes.

I thought Kenney was the more ethical of the Stanford coaches(ask non-Stanford Swimmers about Quick's Olympic Relay picks,or ask Texas Women Swimmers about his jumping ship.) Guess they are 0 for 2.

I just read somewhere that Quick is headed to coach Auburn when the current coach (Marsh) leaves. Is this fact or fiction?

Even if he could take the records from print he will never erase the fact that the swims were made and people were there to witness them. This coach has shown himself to be immature and undeserving of his place at that school.

    Hi,
Today KCBS showed up Heather Farm pool in Walnut Creek looking for comment about this. Kerry O'Brien (who will be 50 on Monday!) and I were on the radio today in the SF BAY AREA Kinda neat.

If you want to hear it go to www.kcbs.com and click on the local news and look for the Stanford thing...

According to SwimmingWorld, Kenney has been suspended and will not travel to Minneapolis next week:
