Mason Sprint Classic: Finnish Formula applied
[note: the first time in the table is by american formulae; the one in the parentheses is the Finnish formula.] for instance, the winners for different age groups (see actual times immediately below) failed to match their equivalent times (see predicted "equivalent times" further below): 26 - 22.92 32 - 24.62 38 - 23.30 42 - 23.21 45 - 24.64 51 - 25.12 60 - 25.95 65 - 30.62 [I am open to bidding war between Speedo, Tyr, B70, etc. for my endorsement of their products.] Event Men 50 Freestyle Age Time ("Finnish formula" time) 19 0:21.72 ( 0:20.52) 20 0:21.73 ( 0:20.56) 21 0:21.75 ( 0:20.61) 22 0:21.77 ( 0:20.66) 23 0:21.79 ( 0:20.71) 24 0:21.81 ( 0:20.76) 25 0:21.84 ( 0:20.82) 26 0:21.86 ( 0:20.88) 27 0:21.89 ( 0:20.94) 28 0:21.92 ( 0:21.01) 29 0:21.95 ( 0:21.07) 30 0:21.98 ( 0:21.15) 31 0:22.02 ( 0:21.22) 32 0:22.06 ( 0:21.30) 33 0:22.10 ( 0:21.38) 34 0:22.14 ( 0:21.46) 35 0:22.19 ( 0:21.55) 36 0:22.24 ( 0:21.64) 37 0:22.29 ( 0:21.74) 38 0:22.35 ( 0:21.84) 39 0:22.41 ( 0:21.94) 40 0:22.48 ( 0:22.05) 41 0:22.55 ( 0:22.16) 42 0:22.63 ( 0:22.28) 43 0:22.71 ( 0:22.40) 44 0:22.80 ( 0:22.53) 45 0:22.90 ( 0:22.66) 46 0:23.00 ( 0:22.80) 47 0:23.11 ( 0:22.94) 48 0:23.23 ( 0:23.09) 49 0:23.35 ( 0:23.24) 50 0:23.49 ( 0:23.41) 51 0:23.63 ( 0:23.57) 52 0:23.79 ( 0:23.75) 53 0:23.95 ( 0:23.93) 54 0:24.13 ( 0:24.12) 55 0:24.32 ( 0:24.32) 56 0:24.53 ( 0:24.53) * our projected overall winner!!!! 57 0:24.75 ( 0:24.75) 58 0:24.99 ( 0:24.97) 59 0:25.24 ( 0:25.21) 60 0:25.51 ( 0:25.46) 61 0:25.80 ( 0:25.72) 62 0:26.12 ( 0:25.99) 63 0:26.45 ( 0:26.28) 64 0:26.81 ( 0:26.58) 65 0:27.20 ( 0:26.90) 66 0:27.61 ( 0:27.23) 67 0:28.06 ( 0:27.58) 68 0:28.53 ( 0:27.96) 69 0:29.04 ( 0:28.35) 70 0:29.59 ( 0:28.76) 71 0:30.18 ( 0:29.21) 72 0:30.81 ( 0:29.67) 73 0:31.49 ( 0:30.17) 74 0:32.21 ( 0:30.71) 75 0:32.99 ( 0:31.28) 76 0:33.82 ( 0:31.89) 77 0:34.72 ( 0:32.54) 78 0:35.68 ( 0:33.25) 79 0:36.71 ( 0:34.02) 80 0:37.81 ( 0:34.85) 81 0:38.99 ( 0:35.77) 82 0:40.26 ( 0:36.76) 83 0:41.62 ( 0:37.86) 84 0:43.08 ( 0:39.09) 85 0:44.65 ( 0:40.45) 86 0:46.33 ( 0:41.99) 87 0:48.13 ( 0:43.74) 88 0:50.06 ( 0:45.75) 89 0:52.13 ( 0:48.09) 90 0:54.35 ( 0:50.88) 91 0:56.74 ( 0:54.24) 92 0:59.29 ( 0:58.44) 93 1:02.03 ( 1:03.85) 94 1:04.97 ( 1:11.20) 95 1:08.13 ( 1:22.00) 96 1:11.51 ( 1:40.17) 97 1:15.13 ( 2:21.30) 98 1:19.02 ( 0:00.00) 99 1:23.20 ( 0:00.00) 100 1:27.67 ( 0:00.00) 101 1:32.47 ( 0:00.00) 102 1:37.62 ( 0:00.00) 103 1:43.14 ( 0:00.00) 104 1:49.06 ( 0:00.00) |

Re: Mason Sprint Classic: Finnish Formula applied
Sorry, Jim, but no dice. Using the rating system at
http://www.vaswim.org/cgi-bin/rcalc.cgi which allows one to compare across genders and events, I see that Fortress simply blows you away. ![]() Your excellent 50 free -- which I watched, great turnover -- rates a very respectable 88.8. Fort's 50 free rates 95.6; if I translate that to a 56-year-old male in the 50 free, the time becomes 22.79. She smoked you. Her 50 fly rating was 95.9, even better. I don't have time to check all the others... |

Re: Mason Sprint Classic: Finnish Formula applied
Chris, believe me, I do not for a second pretend that I am in the same league with the Goddess and Livingston Cup Holder, Leslie, The Fortress, Livingston.
If my last posting implied that I was the overall winner of the 50 free IN BOTH GENDERS then that was an unintentional oversight bordering on blasphemy. The truth is that Leslie's performances are simply unbeatable. What I meant is that I won overall as a male, a much less competitive subset of the 50 free. Such an age-graded victory is very impressive, at least to me, given the likelihood that my testosterone level and misshapen Y chromosome make my gender classification debatable at best. I have always argued that I should be allowed to swim in a third category: that of sickly and girlishly effete guys who have for whatever reason not opted to have gender reassignment surgery or leave the world of heterosexuality behind. I think in this category, my performances even beat Leslie's! But I will not trifle here. I shall play the (pitiable) hand that fate has dealt me, and enjoy my age-graded victory in whatever miniscule subset of overall VICTORY I can get the math to guardedly support! Perhaps we should now move to the 100 and 200 freestyles? PS you, as always, looked magnificent in the water, popping up like a hungry orka after each barely legal SDK. We gawking spectators half-expected to be spritzed with the humid exhaust of a blowhole. At some meet, you really should do a victory lap kicking around with most of your body raised, walking on water style, thanks to frenzied kicks of your tail flukes. |
