Hotels

The following hotels are on the shuttle route:

Holiday Inn Select
Holiday Inn Express
Embassy Suites
Hampton Inn
Wyndham Hotel

The Comfort Inn is approximately 1/4 mile from the pool and is NOT on the shuttle route. Note that the Comfort Inn has a limited number of rooms (around 80) and will most likely fill up quickly. We do not have a special rate with this hotel, however, it is very inexpensive.

Best Hotels and Suites is NOT on the shuttle route.

Please mention the 2002 USMS LCN when making your reservation to take advantage of the special rates.

Sounds like it will be a great meet and social. With such outstanding facilities meet management - where do we sign-up??????

When do you anticipate the entry forms being available??

Will the ice be off the lake before the meet???

USS QT's for USMS Nationals

Can someone please direct me to the requirements for certifying USS times to be submitted for NQT's at the USMS LCM champs? I have read it somewhere, but for the life of me, can no longer find it.

I do not get to swim Masters, for lack of opportunity within a reasonable distance from where I live. However, because my daughter is in USS, I frequently compete at the USS meets. I am getting fairly close to QT's for the August meet and want to be sure, if I am successful in achieving one or more, that I get the proper certification for submission. That is, I am assuming, a requirement to swim in the events after the first 3 freebies, right?

Thanks!

It is the honor system. If asked you should be able to say where you made the NQT. You probibly would not be asked unless you swim well below NQT.

What is the parking situation for those of us not staying in hotels on the shuttle route for the 2002 LC Nationals? Will there be ample, relatively close, parking available?

There will be ample parking in the University lots around the swimming pool. The University is not in session at that time. The closest parking lot will be the lot directly across the street from the pool, on the south side of Euclid Avenue.

Parking in the University lots will be $5 per day. Street parking is available during non-rush hour times on Euclid and Chester Avenues at $1 for 2 hours (meter parking) and is free on Saturday and Sunday.

Arrangements have been made for the Cleveland State University Parking Department to direct the automobile and shuttle traffic in the recreational complex area throughout the morning hours each day.

I will post the link to the Parking maps when they become available on our club website.

A friend told me that the Busbey Natatorium is located in a poor and dangerous section of Cleveland. Does anyone know what the surrounding area is like? Are there restaurants nearby? Can you eat at the Univ. cafeteria? Thanks for more information.

Cleveland State University is located on a busy business corridor and is adjacent to the Theater District which is quite nice. I would not say that it is located in a particularly "dangerous" section and there isn't any low income housing near by.

Cleveland State University has it's own police force that is on duty 24 x 7. I swim at CSU and arrive and leave in the dark (for most of the year). None of our swimmers have had any problems and our cars have never been vandalized.

Cleveland is a large city and swimmers should use the same caution that they would anywhere else. If I was coming to the meet and staying downtown I would feel comfortable staying at the Comfort Inn which is 1/4 mile from the pool and is located on the same avenue. I would feel comfortable walking to and from the hotel alone during the day. At night I would walk with others, just as I would in any large city.

As for restaurants, we will be providing an extensive list and a map to all swimmers. The University will be out of session at the time of the meet so the cafeterias will be closed. Since CSU is so close to downtown, there is easy access to about any kind of food imaginable. We will be providing a nice selection of food choices at the pool as well. The closest restaurant is the Rascal House that is located across the street from the pool and is a fun college pizza and burger place.

Relay only swimmers

Laura,

Several members of my family will be swimming only in relays. Hence, they will sign up for the meet, but not enter any individual events. Is this going to cause a problem with registration (either online or by mail)?

Matt,
They can enter either way - it doesn't make a difference.

We recommend the on-line method of entry since you receive electronic confirmation that allows you to verify your entry immediately.

It's nice that you will have a family relay. Hope we see more!

How does the sharing-a-lane work in the 1500? Do the two people start at opposite ends of the pool, so they won't be swimming side by side? Does it usually work out quite well?

Yes, we will start the swimmers at opposite ends of the pool. Swimmers have to stay to one side of the lane and not obstruct the other swimmer's course.

I swam the 1500 in Baltimore two-to-a-lane and had no problem. I didn't really notice the other swimmer at all. I felt that the personal benefit was that I was able to swim earlier in the day, got showered, fed and rested and then watched the others in my age group swim the event later in the day. Kinda fun.

As the meet host I would love to see as many people as possible swim two-to-a-lane = the meet will end earlier each day = good for our swimmers and good for our volunteers!

A teammate asked me this question and I don't know the answer. Rather than emailing Laura or Pieter privately I thought I'd ask here in case others have the same question:

"I missed info about the social. Can kids come and where do I sign up?"

This is from somebody who already entered the meet. Regardless of the answer about kids, should I tell her just to wait to buy a ticket until she gets to Cleveland since she's already sent in her entry or should she send in a blank entry to only buy ticket(s)?

Hi Jeff,
Yes, children are certainly welcome to the social event at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday night August 16th.

We are in the process of negotiating a reduced price for children under 12. Those that are interested in children's tickets should contact me at swimlaura@ameritech.net.

Thank you.

Matt, you win the prize! As you pointed out, for each nationals, someone has to be the first to ask this question. The answer is as always wishy-washy. From what I heard last week, I'm guessing that we'll have the psych sheets out some time this week, but that's still a guess. You'll know for sure within a day of when I know.

We should start giving a prize for the first one to ask when on line entries will be availabale and when psych sheets will be posted .
