After reading the minutes of February 22-24, 2002, two things stand out.
First Scott proposed changes to the USMS Mission Statement, and would consider a revision to be brought to the HOD at convention. I am one who uses our Mission Statement in all my correspondence. Bringing it to the HOD is contrary to the EC stated goal of using E-mail and the Internet for communication. I would be upset if this were sprung on me at convention. Our members would feel as if you were trying to change the Constitution of the United States without prior debate or knowledge.

If the EC feels there should be revision to our Mission Statement, this discussion forum is the perfect place to start, NOW. Not at convention where all work will stop and the discussion will get very heated.

Second, I am strongly in agreement that the EC follow up on "Tools for Success", I am trying to develop just that for SPMA. I am starting on the coaches' toolbox, and then going to pool owners. If New England LMSC would share their brochure and marketing survey, all LMSCs would benefit.

I am very pleased with our EC; all are doing great jobs of leadership. Thank you for your hard work.

I'm interested in hearing Scott's ideas as well, but don't feel that the EC is going to "spring" up changing the mission statement at convention.

Scott was very forthcoming in his campaign that he wanted to review and consider changing the mission statement of USMS. The EC will probably chew on his ideas for a while and, in due time, come up with something that they would like to have considered by the House of Delegates.

I think, however, that I wouldn't be compelled to have to vote at the next convention on a change to the mission statement. Changing the mission statement is a big deal, and I think that I share Wayne's caution in not wanting to make a large decision in a rash manner. Maybe we'll just talk about it and vote on it next year. I don't think that any proposed change to the mission statement would be so drastic as to warrant urgency, but anything can happen.
