Question did not swim?

Just curious why (it seems to me) that there are a fair number of DNS names at the end of some events at Nats. I thought this wasn't going to happen with new checki-in procedures.

I think that "previous day check-in" unfortunately invites more no-shows than you would see with "same day check-in". I know that injuries, in the case of three of our club's swimmers, caused them to sign in the previous day, hoping that their injuries would improve by the next day.

Transportation was a problem in a few cases, causing events to be missed (construction, confused shuttle drivers, poor directions, heavy traffic).

Unfortunately, we also had the opposite problem - folks who missed check-in (either due to late arrival or forgetting to sign in). In several cases, the missed event check-in (not no-shows) was for their best events.

I would guess that a number of the empty lanes on Friday were caused by the blackout, with people checking in on Thursday and then unable to make it to the meet on Friday. I heard that a few from Michigan couldn't make their flights Thursday night due to this, and also noticed that a number of the empty lanes were for those in the Metro LMSC.

Maybe this is not the rite place to ask this but why did the 50 breast stroke womens results not show up on real time results. It's the only one that didn't.

Don't know why that happened other than the standard "stuff happens" answer - if something is going wrong on deck or they have a hard time getting a net connection at the time, the real time results will suffer. I've created a results file for that event and added it in now.

Lightbulb

Thanks Jim- of course it was the blackout-related difficulties- I should have realized that it wasn't the attacks of wussiness that I usually experience towards the end of a long meet (esp. 200 breast or 400IM).
Sounds like some pretty outstanding swimming for a smaller Nats beset by something like the blackout (even if the lights stayed on at the pool).
As always, I am impressed by the efficiency of the results being posted!
